Did some calcs and suggest you get in there soon as this might be too good to be true

I took a random economy return in Jan between Sydney and Perth. Round trip $740. Base points 4400

Take 5*gift card bonus 3700
Take 2*Qcash 1480
Triple base points 13200

Total points 18380

That equates to just over 24 points per $

You can actually get amounts less than $2 credited to a new voucher. It is the service recovery vouchers that have the $2 minimum.

Of course you need to be bothered to spend the time on the phone for <$2.

Terms have changed this year.

Also for newcomers, note vouchers cannot be combined, so if you buy 10 vouchers, you need 10 separate bookings. A trap for young players.

I would think the base points would be 2900 return as at AUD740 rtn, that would have to be a Red Edeal.

Would drop the return to 18.75pts/$. Using a good QF linked Amex would get you another 0.5pts/$.

I have some I bought last year that I haven't used yet - travelled less than anticipated - not sure what I want to do next year and reluctant to book flights in Y that I may not be able to use - if I book J flights or full flex Y can I then cancel and get the money or voucher value back to extend the expiry date - any other suggestions welcome - TIA

anyone game enough to test this with Amex $700 spend $100 credit on a voucher to see if they get the credit?

I've registered and my next spend will be a voucher - worth a shot.

I've never had issues before, AmEx has always processed QF gift voucher purchases as travel.

This makes it a far more attractive proposition. $700 voucher (per Amex card I have), total spend $600, 5*700+3*700 points. 5600 points (plus whatever I get for flights). Not a bad haul. Still, 10 ppd would be better.

Actually, looks like it's $1k as the only real option:

Well, if you were going to buy $100 x 7 vouchers anyway .... I thought the AMEX deal was 1 or more transaction. EDIT: not available on Velocity AMEX card - doh.

Has anyone ever had any success with buying a voucher for an amount which is in-between the other figures? I want to buy 2 x $1,500 to use on a single booking for 2 pax, but it jumps from $1K to $2K per pax with nothing in between... I'll just go for 2 x $1,000 if I need to, but seems a waste of the bonus points opportunity!

Cheers,
Matt.

I'm about to spend approx $2.5k on an international y flight
Can I clarify that I can buy 2 vouchers to this value, and use both towards the cost? Appreciate any advice

I believe one voucher only per booking. You can't combine vouchers to pay for a single booking - if that is what you are asking.

Correct. have to buy a $2k voucher and apply that then pay the rest with your CC etc (but hey, no fees)

also assuming the international Y flight is ex-AU

Re the Amex thing, just bought a $1k voucher and voila:

Congratulations, a credit is on its way. Thank you for making an eligible purchase and qualifying for your Amex Offer. Your $100 credit for spending $700 or more at Qantas will be issued to your registered Card account. Credits are generally issued within 5 business days upon completion of your eligible transaction.

This came through and I have not even got the voucher email from QF (!)

Nice one! If only all communications were that quick.

Apologies if this is a silly question but can you use these to book return flights x-Australia? SYD-HKG-SYD? I've noticed above that people are saying that the flights need to be x-Australia and I want to double check that it's only the first flight that needs to originate in Australia.

I'm guessing their system registers the purchase from the appropriate merchant (QANTAS) and it's flagged as an eligible transaction. I was impressed. Very impressed. (and now I have the voucher from QF).

now, figure out where to fly lol
