Interesting results in the recent Choice magazine around domestic airlines

CHOICE - Airline satisfaction surveys

"Virgin Blue (VB) is nominated best airline overall for economy class, rating significantly above average on most counts, including value for money, seat comfort and booking process (see table below). Of the respondents who chose to fly VB, only 13% say they were lured by its frequent flyer program, compared with 54% for Qantas – but unlike Qantas, VB’s loyalty program is attracting increasing numbers."

Re DJ's loyalty program, you'll find most things increase in numbers when you start from zero. (exception is of course is if the product is terrible), and considering QF has had 4 to 5 times the length of time to build up FF's it's not surprising that they have now stagnated and yet DJ are still building up more numbers.

For me personally I would (and have done in the past) fly DJ. I don't know if I would give them any more marks over QF for seats \ booking ease or just about any other inflight service, with one exception, DJ's crew are always very friendly (whilst my sample size of DJ flights is limited), I and my family have never been on a flight with DJ where the FA's are crabby.

If this prompts QF to pick up its game in earnest, I'll be very thankful and happier person.

I know it's a relatively small thing, but if I am travelling with my 9-year-old I will always choose DJ over any other carrier, purely for the On Demand Foxtel. She loves watching the Nick channel and once it starts, I don't hear beep from her.
And that is a very good thing indeed.

I believe DJ have topped this survey for the last few years. Only thing new is TT have replaced JQ at the bottom.
