Checking luggage question - flying int but going through domestic first

There are three booking numbers at the moment (if thats what you mean by PNR, sorry I am still learning the jargon) :

1. SYD-MEL-SIN (Qantas)
2. SIN-HEL-BUD and return is BUD-HEL-BKK (Finnair)
3. BKK-SIN-SYD (Cathay + Qantas)

When you tell QF in SYD that you have oncarriage SIN/xHEL/BUD on AY once they add the first AY flight SIN/HEL that should automatically add the HEL/BUD flight also.

Ditto for the return so in BUD when you tell AY you have oncarriage on CX BKK/SIN that should automatically add the last flight SIN/SYD on QF as both the CX & QF flights are in the same Amadeus pnr.

Don't stress out over it. I wouldn't ask whether your bags can be checked through as it makes you sound like you're not quite sure whether it can be done. Just tell them politely "I'd like my bags checked through to my final destination of BUD on AY" then hand over your AY itinerary so the CSA can add the AY flights into your checkin record.

If they say it can't be done because the QF & AY flights are on separate bookings, tell them that it is still permitted due to both QF & AY being OW Alliance members - not that you should have to tell them this mind you. If they still won't budge ask to speak to the checkin supervisor.
