Hi AFFers - I've been using the EatClub app quite a lot recently after discovering that several of my regular local venues had joined the platform. The savings have been surprisingly good! For anyone unfamiliar with EatClub, it was founded in Australia as a way to help restaurants, cafes and bars attract customers during quieter trading periods by offering limited, time-based discounts; Kind of like dynamic pricing for hospitality.

Using it is very straightforward. You search an area (or follow your favourite venue/s) in the app, redeem an offer before dining, and then ultimately tap/pay using the EatClub digital card that you add to Apple Pay or Google Wallet the very first time you redeem an offer. The merchant receives payment for the full bill, but your underlying credit card is only charged the discounted amount. In my experience, staff generally have zero idea you're using it because everything happens behind the scenes. I've seen discounts ranging from 10% to 50% off, all including adult beverages, and there seems to be good coverage across Australia's major cities. It's also available in the UK, although I haven't had the opportunity to try it there yet.

Here's a look at what I'm seeing right now in the Sydney and Melbourne CBDs. It's quite late as I write this, so there are a lot fewer live offers than you'd normally find. The venues showing 6% are participating businesses that don't currently have a specific 'live' discount, but you still get dining credits by paying with the digital card that can be used on later purchases.

If you'd like to give it a try, my referral link to open from your phone is:
I receive a $10 dining credit if you sign up and make use of the app. As far as I'm aware, there's no direct benefit for the new user via the referral, but once you're a member you'll have your own referral link that you can share with family & friends, or to add back into this thread! I've only found a couple of references to EatClub on AFF, so I'm also interested to hear whether others have been using it and what sort of savings you've achieved.

Cheers,
Matt.

I can vouch for Eatclub! Have been using for about a year and had some good meals.

Most of the places are offering genuine discounts but there are one or two - and it’s just one or two - that seem to be artificially inflating their prices and then offering a 35-45% discount?

Dunno, maybe that is their regular pricing, but then not surprised they need to discount because the prices are crazy high!

The discount applies to alcohol as well as mentioned.

All up it’s really easy and streamlined.

Also strongly recommend EatClub. 42% off the bill is the highest reward I've managed to get so far. Just stunning that this applies to alcohol!

Thankyou for considering using my referral link: https://links.eatclub.com.au/F6c9jidr92b

The ALDI one is a good trick! I always fumble and have to switch between Amex and M/C there.
I’ve not checked closely on this… but is it also a way to avoid higher/any AmEx Card surcharges at participating locations?

Here's the tiers - I'd not noticed this before now:

Yes can avoid higher surcharges . Although EatClub apply their own surcharge by default .

The offers that are "arrive by X time" confuse me a bit... As payment won't happen at some of those places until the end of dining. I guess the EatClub app is using geolocation to determine when you arrived at a place?

I’m not sure it’s that sophisticated :D

There’s something like a 2-3 hour window where the offer is active. So if it says ‘arrive by 3pm’, the offer is live in the background until 5 or 6 or something, So as long as you pay by the. it’s all good.

They send you an email/sms to tell you when you need to pay by… so like ‘pay within 15 minutes’.

Did this for a bar… arrive by 7. Got a message at 945pm to ‘pay now’.

I used EatClub at Squires Loft in Cheltenham Vic tonight for 25% off total bill - ~$320 down to ~$240 - no qualms about this as there wine prices are exorbitant - like 2018 Stonewell for $175

I will not use it at smaller family owned restaurants like Ciccios Pizza in Aspendale who regularly offer 33% off - but they permit BYO wine at $8 corkage so I will not pluck a few bucks from them as they desperately need every cent to survive - but as always YMMV

Edit: For the benefit those that may not be familiar with EatClub see here below actual saving for 25% Squires Loft deal yesterday:

agree about not using it at family run local places. I have a lovely little Indian place near me and the couple work so hard and have their son in their after school 5 nights a week

Food for thought.

We used eatclub at this tiny restaurant in Melboirne that is usually extraordinarily expensive… single set menu for all diners…. Which the chef crates ‘on the go’ (no printed menu, the 3 courses just come out of the kitchen). Family run. Only holds 16 people.

On a public holiday we were wandering by and saw they were offering 45% off. It was packed. The owner came by our table and said he couldn’t understand it for public holiday… he was expecting one or two tables max, but was full.

So yeah, understand family run business need the money, but on the other hand this restaurant had an extra 12 people - $2000 extra after the discount - they otherwise wouldn’t have got.
