I have descided to visit BKK (thanks to the CX I fare!)

On the way home I will be on CX713 BKK-SIN landing at 16:10 then on QF078 departing 19:45 SIN-PER.

As these are 2 seperate bookings, can I get them linked together? If not in BKK can I ask for them to check through to PER? What would I need to have with me?

Hi v8.

CX and QF have an interline agreement (to transfer baggage) so you will be able to check your bags all the way through providing the transit isn't too long (which it isn't). At check-in in BKK you can just ask the agent to check you all the way through (make sure you have both PNR and ticket numbers). Also, if you ring QF before you travel, the CSA will be able to link the two bookings together before you travel.

I've had an AA and QF booking linked together so that when I view the booking on the QFF website, I can now see my AA flights and QF flights under the one QF PNR number and in the one booking.

Cheers,

I rang up to get this done and I hit a brick wall. I now can't remember if I was talking to the premium desk or not, but the guy just seemed to be unwilling :(.

It would be nice so I can print 1 itinerary for my non technical mother who does not understand you can leave the country on multiple seperate itineraries and make it home. She seems to think I will fall into a void in SIN as that is all QF will do for me :p

My only suggestions V8 are to try again. My CSA wasn't overly pleased and wanted my TA to do it (even though she couldn't because one was a revenue booking and the other a FF booking). I would just keep trying.

Alternatively, don't worry about it. When you check in in Bangkok you will be able to check all the luggage through anyway.

I would carry both PNR's - and know my ticket numbers.

IN BKK, show both and you should be able to get your bags tagged to PER. However, CX may not be able to give you your BP (or fully check though) your luggage to PER.

If they can't give you your BP for SIN-PER, then when you arrive in SIN, go to the Transfer desk and collect your boarding pass there. Ensure you have the baggage tag from your BKK-SIN flight with you as they will ask for that (positive bag/passenger identification reasons) and your itinerary to PER.

All should work out ok with this. I had a very interesting moment in a similar situation flying BKK-SIN-SYD a couple of years ago where BKK couldn't issue me with the BP for SIN-SYD. I lost my bag tag and had to then visit that airline's desk to get my bag tag number before I could get my boarding pass to SYD.

The premium desk did this for me for my current US trip - added the separately booked AA flight numbers so that they were all visible under "My Bookings" and also to alert AA that I was connecting from a QF flight.

Last year I flew on 8 separately ticketed lufthansa sectors through fra (so really 4 trips).

KRK-FRA-TXL
TXL-FRA-BCN
BCN-FRA-HAM
HAM-FRA-LAX

On 3/4 trips the checkin person found the other reservation and checked baggage through to final destination (although I had to get new boarding pass in FRA).

Out of Barcelona the checkin lady refused to check luggage through to Hamburg. She insisted that it could not be done because they were separate reservations. It meant that luggage had to collected in FRA (& Xrayed at security before checkin) and I had to pay an excess luggage charge for FRA-HAM [only one on entire trip and weight of baggage hadn't changed]!

Lufthansa phone reservations had previously advised me that luggage can be checked through with separate reservations as long as 2nd itinerary/eticket/etc is shown at checkin. I guess I could have pushed the issue but these days you can be refused carriage for being argumentative at checkin!

2 questions:

(Q1) I don't know how to ask a new question on AFF. Can someone please tell me.

(Q2) Luggage connection QF to AA and vice versa. Flying on 2 separate reservations MEL to AKL [QF] and then AKL to DFW [AA].

If I have 2 separate bookings - MEL to AKL QF 25. AKL to DFW on AA (which is a continuation of QF 25 and then on AA metal from LAX to DFW).

On checkin in MEL will they check luggage through to DFW on 2 separate reservations (ie 1st QF and 2nd AA codeshare but QF metal (continuation of same flight) then on to AA metal from LAX to DFW)?

If they didn't connect luggge I would miss connection - I think there is 1hr 40 mins in AKL.

What about reverse - ie DFW to AKL (on AA) then AKL to MEL on QF same aircraft but change of airline/reservation in AKL and 1 hr 40mins in AKL.

thanks.

If you want to start a new thread, you first need to go to the relevant forum on AFF (eg. Qantas Frequent Flyer, Virgin Blue Velocity, Your Questions etc. etc.) and click on 'NEW THREAD'. Then go nuts :p.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

(Q2) First

Should not be a problem checking all the way through to DFW; last year I did MEL-AKL-LAX-DFW with the LAX-DFW on a separate booking.

Make sure you have printed copies of your e-ticket receipts and any other documentation. The ticket numbers for each booking are important.

I did contact Qantas in the weeks prior to the journey and had information on the last segment added to the MEL-LAX booking as an "Information Sector".

(Q1) Go to the Your Questions forum and click "> NEW THREAD"

Whilst on the topic of checking baggage through, what is the most number of separate reservations/tickets that someone has managed to get baggage checked through on?

I was quite surprised last month, when I checked in at Kota Kinabalu (BKI), I presented three separate tickets, BKI-KUL (MH), KUL-SIN (SQ) and SIN-MEL (SQ), and was able to have the baggage checked through to MEL.

Sorry to raise this thread from the dead, but I am interested in this as well.

Looking at booking a bit of a loopy MR from DAC-BKK that goes:

DAC-HKG (KA); HKG-ICN (CX) on one PNR
ICN-HKG (CX) on the next PNR
HKG-BKK (RJ) on the third PNR

The turnaround in HKG both times is a couple of hours. The ICN turnaround is only 1:10 (same plane), so I don't think I'd have time to collect and recheck the bags.

They are all OW carriers, and CX subsidiaries for the most part - but still worry that it might be too complex.

Has anyone else had any experience with checking bags through complicated routing and multiple PNRs?

My personal best effort was two PNRs - one combined AS/AA, one AA. Routing was SEA/SFO/LAX/DFW/LGA. Gotta admit I was surprised when the bag actually turned up on the carousel at LGA.

I've actually got a multi-PNR, multi-carrier trip coming up that I'm expecting my bag to go missing on -- HAV/CUN/MEX/LHR/AMS on MX and BA. Should be fun.

CX are able to issue your BP for the SIN-PER flight. Going between NRT-HKG on CX and HKG-PER on QF and both on different tickets, the CIA was able to issue both BP's and send the luggage all the way through.

The only issue is that the BP will be on CX paper, which we were able to have QF BP's issued at HKG checkin.
