Check-in to QF9 at SYD?

I will be travelling SYD-MEL-PER in June, with MEL-PER on QF9. Would the domestic check-in counters at SYD be able to check me in for QF9 (including the D sticker)?

Or would I have to get that boarding pass at MEL? In that case, what time would check-in for that flight start? I will most likely be travelling HLO.

SYD-MEL will be a regular domestic flight, so you check-in at the domestic terminal. You check-in for that flight in accordance with the regular domestic flight check-in times. You'll be given all your documentation for both flights then.

Once you arrive in MEL, you will walk over to the international terminal and go through security/immigration there to board QF9.

I thought original check in would be domestic terminal in Sydney as your first flight is domestic flight to Melbourne and arrive in domestic terminal in Melbourne before going through international security in Melbourne

FYI… I live in Melbourne- QF domestic terminal is adjacent to the international terminal

I know exactly what you're asking - and I have just booked SYD-MEL-DRW on QF9.

You're asking is there anything special about the D boarding pass for QF9 domestic that requires you to get that from MEL T2, or can it be issued in SYD?

Answer is I don't know, but my flight is before yours so I'll let you know. I'd imagine SYD can do it, but worst case might just have to recheck in T2 to get your boarding pass. The bags will be able to be checked through in SYD if you were carrying bags.

Did you choose QF9 for the 787 experience? I’ve always avoided due to international delays.

At SYD I'd go to the international connections check in counter (I know MEL has one.. I do wonder if SYD does.. it should). Anyway they should issue the BP's and have the D sticker to apply. At MEL you just walk through to international and go through directly. Should be no need to ceck in (or worry about bags etc). It should be fine. You will of course need a staff member to issue the BP, D sticker and tag etc. It should be pretty straight forward.

It's just signposted as a "Service Desk" to the far left of the bag drop machines. They can check necessary documentation (vaccination certs, gov permits) and issue international BPs. There's a priority queue and pleb queue leading to about 5 or 6 shared check-in desks.

I did QF10 PER-MEL pre-covid. Wasn't able to check in online as it was an "international" flight and they need to ID check for those. Printed BP and orange sticker provided at the service desk. Not sure if that's changed, or if you're able to check in online for the domestic leg only before being verified at the counter in SYD for the "international" leg.

It's a little orange sticker on your BP that signifies you are flying a domestic leg on an "international" flight. Compared to regular international departures/arrivals there are looser ID requirements, and you have no duty-free allowance.

Orange stickers on paper BPs ... whatever happened to the plan to go paperless by the end of 2019?? You'd think with the intervening "event" there would have been a bigger push to do so ...

Don't think we will see paperless international travel, which is what this is, for quite a while.
