I am QF gold but my wife has no status.
We are travelling together.

For economy, I see 46kg for Gold and 30kg for “normal” adult.
Is QF generous to allow 2x46kg?
Or 46kg+30kg?

How long are you travelling for that you would want 76kg, let alone 92kg. Who would be carrying that much luggage for you?

In my experience my wife has been allowed my Platinum allowance when we have travelled together.

And now my daughter is >2 years old there will be 3 of us travelling and we usually travel with 80kg-90kg so should be fine with simple luggage allowance.

Though I have had the converse. Flying MEL-CBR I was WP, my Dad having no OW status and we were both flying J (Bringing things up for me starting Uni). When checking in we were not allowed 6 bags (WP in J domestically gives 3 bags). Instead she tried charging us $250 for an extra bag. Had to get a supervisor to override it. So it seems like it depends on the mood of the person doing the check in.

Each person gets there own allowance. You should not expect more.

That seems excessive for an extra piece (QF lists the charge as $78 for an extra piece + $50 if it is over 23kgs).

Is this an international trip were the base luggage allowance is 30kg each? If so you would only get the 46kg for yourself and 30kg for your wife so 76kg in total irrespective of how many pieces as long as none exceeded 32kg each.

Was it a points upgrade? Sometimes there can be a glitch and the system only bases the allowances on the original ticketed class ie economy. Were any of the bags heavy ie 24 to 32 kgs as the system could have been charging heavy fees if it didn't recognise you were not in J.

There is no such thing as an extra bag fee of $250.00 for wholly domestic travel within Australia. Did you have 5 heavy bags so the system charged 5 x $50.00 heavy fees. It's possible that the bags were pooled under your Dad's name and not yours (with the WP status). Shouldn't be an issue if he was in J anyway which made me wonder if it was a points upgrade to J for him?
