Hi all, looking for cheapest one way J to JNB

QF one way $5300 or $5700 return on QF63 is obviously shortest route.

Will pay cash as there are no awards for 1/5/14 departure

Trying to take advantage of weak ZAR and hence $8k DONE4 ex JNB

Will do more trips late in year so can just keep it going

Prefer not to have a return leg open

Business One-way search on ITA shows Thai via BKK at $4670, Etihad at $4730 via AUH and VA*SQ at $4870 via SIN.

ITA for economy shows Etihad at $1300 via AUH on April 30th and VA/SQ at ~$1350 - both via SIN.

Think I saw on the .br site one time when QF were having a special $1000 return in Y PER-JNB...

Thanks guys,

May pay up for QF63 as I am still $700 in front (more if I book through webjet) and have a positioning leg for next DONE4

Only issue is if I book now for May trip the farthest I can push return leg is Feb 2015

Have just appointed a service provider in CPT so likely to have to visit annually, otherwise it is only an extra 5 hours and extra SC's to LHR

maybe purchase miles with AS/AA/UA etc and try to redeem a one-way award with SQ/CX?

There are J Classic awards SYD to JNB on either side of 1/5/14, but not on the direct - they all go via PER and link up with the SA operated flight. Since the codeshare is coming to an end, I'm guessing this means if you ticket this now, you'll get your tickets but basically the QF flight number on your ticket will be changed to the SA flight number. Apart from that, nothing else will change (since you can't earn any points or SCs on Classics anyway).

If you're a QF WP or P1, you can try requesting a J seat on QF63, and see how you go.

I don't know when VA's agreement with SA comes into force, otherwise you could try holding out for a J award through VA on the SA flight to link up with a VA award to PER; the main advantage is a drop in co-pay due to no YQ on VA redemptions.

Need to be in AMS on the Monday, so need to fly out on 1st

Happy to pay, as the savings for the next trip will allow me to do 2 trips this year

Hop to SIN/KUL/HKG on a cheap ticket (J award or paid y) and you will find major savings on paid tickets from there to JNB.

Happy wandering

not sure what you mean by major savings?

Most J fares from HK, SIN, KUL are around $3800 and I still have to get there

maybe I am not searching in the right place

SGN to JNB one way is USD1993 in I class on CX - available 30 Apr and 01 May

get an award ticket in a premium cabin to KUL or SIN and slum it to SGN
Or paid BA Y+ to SIN

Depends on how much $$ you want to save versus the extra time.
