I travel from UK to Australia/NZ each year in February/March. Because my membership cycles on 28th February, I often loose all my status points just before I qualify for the year. How can I change my membership year to say April or November? If I cant, will Qantas object if I open a new account in that month and close the old one, or should I do it the other way around?

Welcome to AFF :D

If you create a new account, say on Monday 1st November -it's "year" will expire 30th Nov. 2012.

You may then be able to 'Family Transfer' any residual points (as long as at least 5000) to the new account (you could be your own bro!).

Of course you would lose any SC's earned towards loyalty bonus/lifetime status on the old account (although the former will become moot in December).

(It may pay to be discrete about doing this.)

Also you will lose any lifetime SCs you have earned towards lifetime status.

Qantas are quite painful about this. They have the ability to change your renewal date (they will change it for someone who you give Partner Gold to, to match your date) yet they flatly refuse to do it for anyone else.

It would be great if they would do this. I'd actually like to shorten my current year by a couple of months. So it would totally work out in their favour.

That's exactly what I want to do, but I've tried both as a SG and now as WP and they flatly refuse to do it - I've been put through to supervisors and they keep saying "the system won't let us" which is rubbish otherwise how do they do it when they make someone partner gold?! More like a case of "computer says no" to me...

Computer may not let them, and a business rule in the system adjusts the date for a PG without human involvement.
