5c gone
10c goes copper and smaller
20c, 50c smaller

The $1 and $2 unchanged (so still opposite the australian counterparts).

It would all be far simpler when NZ starts using Australian currency.

Will be good to have some lighter coins - wallet not so heavy.

As for the 5c being phased out - they did a study and found almost no one bothered to pick up a 5c piece off the ground.

...and when Australia starts using LOTFAP currency. :D
No way Jose!!!! It has got to be the most boring currency in the world. :)

I guess the thought police will be after me now. Watch out for the black vans.

Well that finishes my charity efforts.

I have previously spent a lot of time rounding up stray and orphaned NZ coins that have found their way across the Tasman. I then make trips over to NZ to release them back into the wild. Now I won't be able to use that as my customs reason for entering the country ... and I always wondered why they looked at me weirdly.

Seriously though, changing currency is a big PITA. Think of all the coin operated machines / coin counting machines and similar items that will need replacing.

Wonder when Australia will follow and drop the 5c. I'm sure it's coming up sometime soon.

The Reserve Bank has been working with the main suppliers for some years planning this change. I'm sure they'll be ready for it.

I'm often still confused by this. Results are some think I try to short change them, whilst others appreciate the tip  .

Goodness, I cant understand anyone who gets confused by a $2 coin being larger than a $1 coin.

Must be off some other planet.

Not realy relating to other planets, but I guess it depends upon what one is used to. Funnily enough, such mistakes ( ) simply paint you as a West Islander to your avergae Kiwi.

Vans, schmans.

It's those black helicopters that worry me.

Damn black helicopters are responsible for everything weird that's going on around here - along with their Atlantian Lizard Man pilots.

And that noise-cancelling technology they use to make them silent is just awsome. I wish Boeing could make that work inside the cabin of a 747! Or better still, if I could get a portable unit that can be applied to Mrs NM when she .... oops, not I am in trouble again   .

In the same manner as US immigration labels non-US citizens   . I always feel like ET when I arrive into LAX TBI.

One time we arrived at LAX and there was actually someone shouting at pax to go into their respective lines (at T2 usually there isnt anyone other than on the desks). "Americans this way, aliens this line here." A poor elderly couple had the temerity to ask what about them? - not american and not from another planet.
