Changes to how you use your $450 Travel Credit

Amex Fine hotels and Resorts.
While that also books through Agoda, it's normally recognised as being similar to Impressario etc.
Amex stays otherwise don't book through a GDS so you won't get points or status benefits, and aren't meant to under the T+Cs.
I suspect it's possible to get a human at amex travel to book your hilton stays through their GDS, but not sure if you can then use the credits with that. Plus you have to talk to a human there, so why bother.

It certainly seems bizarre.

Last year, when the total cost for booking two pax on a single PNR was >$450 x 2, the cost was shown on my statement as a single sum, net after deducting $450, the detail of which was shown on the booking receipt.

On the face of it, your experience seems to indicate that the Amex system chokes with a double booking where the individual fares are <$450, but the total cost is >$450.

Most interested in what the outcome is.
I agree - that's weird. MrsK and I just used our respective $450 credits to book two sets of flights for both of us; going down to Melbourne using my card, and then back home on her card. We got our $450 credit on each.

This was a single booking for two pax and was a single transaction on the Amex.

I received one Amex reference number and one QF PNR and a receipt for $740.

However, on my Amex statement, rather than a single charge of $740, instead I had 2x$370 listed.
I think it depends on how the systems interact for the booking. Direct booking through QF website using an Amex card for multiple Pax charges the total amount, but send the charge as two transactions to Amex - as the passenger details are included in the extended reference data.

Ah ok, not that I'm aware. Just thought Amex Travel Hotels via website.

Spoke to them today and they are supposedly contacting to Hilton. :)

Amex bookings through the website also use Expedia - unless you are consuming a travel credit, or really need some other benefit, far better booking direct or using a real travel agent - chaining multiple OTA means that you end up at the mercy of all of them - and are not seen as a preferred customer for whoever your booking is actually with

$450 travel credit had to be used within 7 days! :( Booking this way in the past did provide for hotel points. We shall see after my complaint. Was greeted as a Gold Rewards member when arrived at Hilton.

If you get them, it's good luck, but you definitely aren't meant to just for future reference. Same with loyalty benefits, though those are more hotel dependant.

Despite this, Hilton didn't award points as Gold for $1600 dinner bill either! Which they should have.

Was this paid for on room charge? If so, again as the whole stay is deemed aggregator you get nothing. Folio doesn't count on an aggregator stay either AFAIK. Will have another read soon.
If it was paid on CC outside of the hotel stay, I'm not sure if you get points when dining and not staying. I know you could for a while.

  1. A "stay" is defined as the total number of consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, whether or not a guest checks out and checks back in again. Specifically excluded from the definition of "stay" are the following types of ineligible stays: wholesale/tour operator packages; contracted crew rates; travel agency discount rates; packages exclusively for casino player card holders; unauthorized Members staying on Go Hilton Team Member or Family & Friends Travel Rates; stays secured utilizing Hilton Grand Vacations Club and Hilton Club timeshare programs, HiltonGetaways.com bookings; Hilton Grand Vacations marketing packages with a sales presentation requirement; complimentary or barter rooms; NET Group rates; Series Group or IT Group rates; contracted Entertainment or Encore rates; third party websites bookings (irrespective of rate paid); and "opaque" channel bookings where the brand may or may not be known at the time of purchase.
  2. Hilton Honors Points (or stay credit) may not be earned (including as a My Way benefit) for or during ineligible stays, including without limitation, folio charges incurred during ineligible stays.

And I think that all sucks, and wish you best in getting your points. It's happened to me before and part of the reason I find it hard to use my credits.

So if you paid outside of the folio you would earn maybe 500 points, but should have gotten a discount at least, if we are talking about "Vintage bar and restaurant"

Was Vintage bar. No discount was applied. HR number quoted on invoice.

Just to clarify.

Was the per person cost of each flight <$450, but the total cost of each pair of flights >$450 and you each got the full $450 credit?

Was there anything in your billing where Amex split the total cost into two equal amounts of <$450 as they did for @Captain Halliday?

Annoyed with AmEx travel and Hilton. Booked using platinum card at Hilton Brisbane last week and also spent big on dinner for four, as a Gold Rewards member, no points awarded …
I book Hilton hotels direct and always receive the Hilton points
