Chance of upgrade 3 Pax

Question, does having a toddler in the party effect the chances of an upgrade to F?
I wish someone could answer that. But I’ll let you know shortly. Since he’s a WP I hope we have a slim chance, but otherwise I’ll expect our chances to be non existent if he wasn’t.

Ahh! Upgrade season - where economy is oversold with planned use of premium seats on economy fares.

Mar 31 is smack bang in the middle of Easter so a slightly improvement in chances.

Is there seriously a difference in upgrades during festive/holiday seasons? Shows how new at this I am.

Less people travelling for Business and more for holidays. Now that "may" mean that there's less people booked in premium cabins as they're not travelling on the company dime and that economy is oversold forcing QF to approve upgrades as that's preferable to bumping people off the flight. Forced upgrades from economy has a flown on effect to the other cabins.

A toddler that's already a WP! That's a big head start for building lifetime status.

He loves all the different colour cards he’s collecting :). Likes the gold one the best though. He only joined QFF last Jan 17. 1900 SC and he’s scored WP. He would’ve hit over 2400 SC if his parents didn’t leave him with his grandparents on their dive live aboard . Have his LTS before 7 at the rate he’s travelling.

Makes logical sense. Learn new things all the time. I’ll keep that in mind when I book holidays, and use points for awards or upgrades

Well it is a theory. The problem with upgrades is that it's difficult to really start to have a somewhat accurate idea as to the chances till quite close to the flight so even for high status travellers there is a risk of missing out.

Some would try to book off-peak times of the year, outside school holidays and on a less popular day of the week to travel for Business.

It's about picking the right times.

Getting an upgrade could potentially be more difficult at peak times if there are more high status travellers who usually travel for Business and are used to Business Class travelling for leisure and looking for upgrades.

Ha. So basically what you’re saying it really doesn’t matter much (except a midweek flight outside holidays). It all seems a lottery to me, still haven’t grasped the finer points yet, but I guess that comes with time and experience.

Many here call it an ‘upgrade lottery’. Status helps your chances but if e.g. a sporting team to book out what’s left in a premium cabin, any chance of an upgrade to pretty much disappear when it previously looked very promising.

There's a good chance of op-ups during holidays. Luckily I've had a few over the years. Not easy travelling with family.

If I may tag on here ... My daughter's employer booked her on QF11 SYD-JFK on 28 April as a solo. What are the approx points I'd have to spend if going for an upgrade on April 28? And, does a humble LTS have any chance in this lottery?

If she can access her booking and click Upgrade it will advise how many points you’ll need before you accept. The issue may be if it has been locked down by the person doing the booking.

Also you can only put in a request if the fare is upgradable. The cheapest economy fares can’t be upgraded (except if there’s a special sale giving this benefit over and above the usual conditions).

Thanks for your help, sorry forget to say that she’s in J, and once she puts her bkg into her membership I’ll be able to check out her bkg code. At the moment she’s away and can’t tell me. I’d like to be able to get her a single seat in F as a first and very special treat.

I've upgraded from J to F on points to LAX, as a PS (sole traveller). There's no F on the LAX-JFK leg.

That’s interesting, haven’t heard of a booking having had that done before.

Thanks Ansett. Once I have her details I’ll be able to see that info. What I have not heard of before is that a booking as @Pushka referred to may be, “locked down”. My daughter is a bronze so I’m hoping I can do it for her as a silver.
