Well they fortunately dont let all celebs into the CL.Mrsdrron tells me Bert Newton sat next to her in the MEL QP this afternoon-she thought it was 20 to 1 on that it was him.:D:cool:

Haha nice one!

Iit must only be celebs of a certain calibre:
Bernie Fraser was in the BNE CL on Monday. Though I'm guessing his fronting of Super ads wasn't the reason he got the invite to being with! :p

I've also seen Bob Brown in the Mel QP... So it may not be all MP's either...

I trust you left the club immediately:!:

However I'm sure that BB would decline CL membership as that surely goes against his "holier than thou" attitude, and I don't think he would be very popular with the business types in there.

end rant/

ooooh we could get into a nice political debate here... but lets not :D

So I know MEL and SYD have CL.. does Hobart?

I assume BNE and Perth have them as well..

Do other carriers have a similar scheme (I have heard of AA's Concierge key, but AFAIK there is no special domestic lounge system for them)

Hobart doesn't have one, no. Just a QP.

It didn't have a J lounge either when I was there last year IIRC.
I guess there aren't many CLs down there.

Not sure about domestically, but with BA you can get into the Concorde Room, which is invite only. Or if you're a Premier member.

CX has Diamond Invitational, but they get access to the same lounges as any Emerald.

And from a quick search on FT. All of these are invitational levels:

AA VIP
AF Club 2000
BA Premier
CO Star?
CO Chairman's Circle
CX Invite
DL Executive Partner
IB Club Fiesta
QF Chairmans Lounge
SK Pandion
UA Global Services

I know this is slightly OT, but this post reminds me of a rant I was going to have last week

I was in T4 at LHR, waiting to board a BA flight to SIN. I was travelling J but am WP, so I asked where the F lounge was (been a while since I had been there). They told me that they only have the 1 combined lounge now.

Fair enough, but then I get in there and find out that they have a fine dining section reserved for F and chairman's lounge. So much for allowing their WP-equivalents into the QF F lounges....

If that's the way they play it, they should not be allowed to have their emerald OWs use the QF F lounges either...

rant over....:p

Letter to Qantas (if nothing else, save QF the $$ they pay BA for you to use the lounge).

Interesting... was in HBA 10 years ago with a CL member and we were offered entry to separate facilities from the QP.

It was the last flight out on a Friday of a sitting week and was packed with politicians, ministers and high ranking public servants (even a premier). My CL decided to stay in the QP with the public servants (it was almost like a party - the whole plane seemed to know each other) - but the other senior pollies were certainly in 'another place' and not in the general QP lounge.

Wonder what other facilities they were using?

This inadequate situation has bee mentioned many time over the last 18 months, both here on AFF and on FT.

Those in the know (and have the opportunity to do so) have been booking on BA to HKG and QF/BA to Oz to avoid T4.

It probably won't please you to know that if you had travelled three weeks later it would have been out of T3 and you would have had access to a < 1 week "old" BA First Class lounge in T3 (it opens on the 29th).

In what seems like a previous life I worked for a polli who was a Minister. As a general rule state & fed ministers get 'invited' into the CL when they travel QF. I now work for a large international charity & the head of said charity often gets invited in when he travels. Got into the CL once in SYD when travelling with the polli & I asked a QF staff member how someone like me could get in & was told "it is invite only - maybe you spend a lot of money with QF, be a minister or someone QF thinks they should be nice to".

So on that logic, it is mathematically impossible to have $10m pa personal travel spend on QF on commerical tickets, as 500 flights by 15 hours by 2 (return) is a lot more time than exists in a year, even if you were continuously sitting in the plane!
Unless you take you entourage/large family with you when flying. then the time required starts to tumble.

If I took my family I'd only have to do 125 flights.

Have to agree regarding him turning down a CL membership. But I think you're find that the smart business types will go out of their way to engage with people like BB. It can be much better for them in the long run.

CCR is not invitation only though. You get automatic access if you are flying BA F.

Or have a Concorde Room card - they were originally given out to some very loyal Concorde flyers (and VIP's) when the service was stopped, but now are now also given out to BA Golds (ie Qantas Plat equivalent) who fly way too much and earn 5000 Tier points - That is a huge amount of flying in premium cabins!
