Cellar Records, Wine Tracking, Tasting Notes - Spreadsheet vs. Apps or Programs?

Just to be different I will recommend CellarTracker... oh wait! :D

How do you folks deal with the AUD vs USD issue with valuations? I enter prices in AUD as I buy wine (with my region set to AU in my preferences). So I don't get to see what the community valuation is without having to switch to USD, but I need to do that temporarily as not to "pollute" the community data with prices that are actually AUD but labelled USD.

And I wouldn't be surprised if the reason there's a Windows Phone app is because the guys that started it are ex-Microsoft!

Only problem is remembering to remove the bottles, or mark them as "consumed" on some nights when I divulge in more than one bottle!

I'm sure it's no coincidence one of the reasons you can choose when consuming a wine is "Missing or presumed drunk"!

There's a few bottles I need to do that for; I have no idea when or where, but I know we dont have them anymore...

I have taken the plunge and signed up for an account... Now for the epic data entry.

+1 for Cellartracker. I have been using the website for several years for entering wines, have now downloaded the app and has made it much easier. I have wines stored in multiple locations and use the location tab when entering wines which then allows me to sort by location when I need to see what I have.

If you need a hand with any Inventory reduction please let me know.. :D

Cheers

Mat

Does anyone worry about privacy/security of having all your data online?

Although I guess you don't provide your address, or specify the address of different cellar locations, so it's more "some dude has xx_ bottles".

I just use AUD too. I believe they are working on different currencies as a new feature.

You can hide your collection from general users. There's always still the risk of someone breaking into CellarTracker itself and perhaps stealing everyone's details. Though I think most collections would be, relatively of low value. Of higher value are usernames/passwords that might be reusable elsewhere, depending on whether these are extractable or not.

My favourite thing about Cellartracker is sitting at work on a Friday lunch time, reading the 'drinkability report', and planning my weekend :)

Wine Apps and/or Software

With some serious wine collectors and collections on this site, I'm hoping for some tips on decent apps and/or software to help catalogue my collection and assist my diminishing memory with tasting notes, pairings and optimal drinking age. Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated.

Re: Wine Apps and/or Software

My vote would be for CellarTracker

Re: Wine Apps and/or Software

Every time this question gets asked the answer is probably 95% Cellar Tracker with a few straglers who still use their old Excel spread sheets (A few of them managed to import that data into Cellar Tracker from memory).

Just go download Cellar Tracker - they have an IOS and Android app as well as browser compatibility. The ability to add wines yourself. If you have a Wine Companion membership you can get the Haliday reviews and notes on all your bottles. It also allows people to update drinking windows and tasting notes as they drink the wine so you will be able to see how the wine is travelling in the bottle. The best part has to be the ability to generate reports, it is always scary running reports and realising my ban on collecting more from specific regions has failed (2014 Hunter i'm looking at you)

penegal, how are you going with CellarTracker? Last time I looked you didn't have any wine at all
