Caviar!

11.30am QFd flight ADL - SYD small quiche or minuscule chicken fallafel mini roll.
Not even cider was available on the flight.
They should put money into retiring debt/reserves/dividends than paying for suppliers of caviar!
Lobster bisque next?
Why not? I pay a fair bit for long haul F and there is plenty of competition. Much as I love Qantas, I will definitely be booking more of my flights in the future with competitors because of things like showers and caviar and the like. So if Qantas want to keep my dollars and add to their profitability then they need to compete and this is a little step...

When I flew Etihad in F in 2009 we did get lobster...

Exactly. Many of QF's competitors from Asia and the Middle East (including EK) have already been offering these types of dining options in their first cabin for years. This is a logical step for QF to take if it is to remain competitive.

QFd service is very good compared to others.
QF need to improve it's F product to catch up with a very competitive market that offers suites, showers and chefs onboard.
Adding Caviar is a step in the right direction.

I am a caviar taster from way back. Will test this Monday if it is offered.

I got to sample the caviar (in addition to the rest of the tasting menu) last night flying to LAX.

The caviar was very nice, but very subtle - not over the top, but if you're after a strong flavour you'll have to look elsewhere.
The rest of the tasting menu was also great, with the exception of the beef - I think as a rule I'm going to stop ordering beef on planes (I thought F might be different...) - dry and tough and taken too far. Everything else was excellent- highlights were the canapes (caviar and lamb dumpling), Jerusalem artichoke gratin and the duck salad.

Yes, and the lobster (and caviar) in TG F ex SYD were both very tasty.

Why is it that from Australia from a land of beef eaters, QF consistently just cannot cook beef inflight? Are all the FAs from the nuked BBQ ('if it's mooing I ain't chew in') set?

Beef on EK, BA, AF, FA and Singapore has in my experience been good to excellent. On 5 QF beef (when they actually serve it) meals, consistently terrible, dry, nuked with blow torch. Seems NP must never order or try beef on QF?

but.... where's the sauce??

NP seems to like serving dishes without sauces. An option (or several) would be nice.

I often think NP doesn't actually try most of the dishes in an 'aircraft-ready' state... or if he does, the kitchen has advance warning and makes them super special for his approval. It's just not possible some of the food served has been approved by him to go out.

To be fair, not only QF finds it hard to deliver exceptional meat dishes. I had over-cooked steak on EK and dry lamb on OZ before.
At least they can't go wrong with Caviar :)

Sorry dude, you're coming across as somewhat bitter and a tad jealous. You can't possibly hope to compare a ~2 hour domestic Y trip to a long haul F flight to LAX/DFW or DXB/LHR. Heck, in the USA on a 5 hour flight you wouldn't get as much in Y as you do on QF.

You're happy to buy the cheap fares and yet complain about the food offerings on a 2 hour flight?! You can get food in the terminal at either end, or since you are SG (I do read your posts) you can grab food in the ADL QP. 2 hours is not long.

I just booked a F flight in the USA of a similar distance from DFW-ORD. "F"(I know). What are they offering up front? "Refreshments" - what does that mean on a 1:50pm departure? I'm almost certain it will involve some nuts or other salty death mix. The QF Y food would be an improvement I can assure you.

I will say I think the Y offerings on QF domestic HAVE improved - specially with the meal boxes. No, it's not like it was 30 years ago, but we can't live in the past.

Anyway, back on topic to the Front Roe....

Slightly O/T, just had the caviar on TG F BKK-SYD and as a personal preference, I did not think it was anything special. I just ate it with the onion and crème though, Not the egg yolk and white, so maybe doing something wrong. They were very generous though, came around twice

not doing anything wrong at all! :)

you can eat caviar any way you like it... with or without accompaniments.

I eat it straight up - no garnishes, and no breads, blinis or toast. If it's a good caviar I don't want to meddle with the taste. (it's kinda like making a mimosa with Dom)

But that being said, there are caviars and there are caviars. Not all are equal, and will depend on personal taste and preference. Just like wine there are different brands and different grades.

Looking at the pic posted I quite like wat QF is doing. I know some prefer the whole tin and all that but to me it's a nice little classy touch and I'd be happy to have that (given I'm not too much of a caviar type myself). Hopefully I'll get my taste in a couple of weeks when I fly to LAX.

Caviar is not for everyone and neither is champagne.

Some people like to exaggerate.
