Cautionary tale of left luggage at Bangkok International Airport

IMO you haven't missed much by not visiting the BKK CX lounge. Seating is Ok, bar is unremarkable. There is a noodle bar that woks up noodles to order if that's what you want and a very small selection of uninteresting western food under glass covers.
Totally agreed. I was there again twice this trip. Don't need noodles before a flight. The food under the glass covers is very similar to the food in the Thai Royal Silk and Royal Orchid lounges back towards the E concourse.

Surprisingly the Louis Tavern lounge opposite G2 had much better food selection including hot food.

I think that in BKK the Emirates lounge is where you want to be.
Only if flying Qantas or EK. Not BA or any other Oneworld airline.

Yes, very true. This Louis Tavern has quite good food, much better than the CX lounge.

This is a one off, in my experience of the left luggage service. I have used them multiple times (maybe 5-8 times a year) for the last few years.

I agree they are always busy, and helpful and moderate efficient. No hassles.

I can't see this being a systemic scam TBH. Would be interested if Google has other episodes from annoyed travellers.

It is Thailand not Australia where the incident took place, therefore I would argue it does not defy logic (even though it defies conventional western logic- logic, IMHO in Thailand logic tends to be circular rather than linear). And it is far from destined to fail every time.

.
I know Thailand logic very well. The scenario seems very un-thai to me.

I disagree. Very Thai like to me. We all have different experiences.

At many bars/restaurants they put receipts/bills in the little bin at your table. In some places if paying with a 1,000 baht note make sure you hold up the 1,000 baht note and they acknowledge it otherwise you may not receive change. It has happened to me once or twice and has happened to others I know.

Was flying QR so EK lounge wasn't an option. The contracted lounge QR uses is the Thai Airways Royal Silk (C gates) - plain but did the job.

I doubt it, Thai 'scams' are common and havent seen or heard of any new ones in 30 years. (well i cant think of any right now)

Thats common and completely different as they cannot lose face over that. They will not acknowledge their mistake deliberate or not, but after much discussion back and forth and consultation with the manager they will let you know they are letting you off this one time because you are a good customer and want you to come back, or something like that. There is also adding extra items to the check, not having enough change, charging higher prices, these and many others are all different ways of helping a farang part with a little bit more money that they see it as a fair way of doing business. Then if caught out usually thats the time that they dont speak/understand english so well and they can always go with the honest mistake excuse anyway. No loss of face.

This pocketing of the money is much different. If deliberate thats just outright theft, and that is not a trait of Thai people (its a trait of humanity).
