Cathay started cancelling flights weeks ago before Corona hit. I’m glad I cancelled and rebooked Qatar for a great price and which is now several thousand of dollars more. Just as well I’m not going via HK now as cruise ships refuse embarkation if transitting through HK.

Cathay had a high operational cost structure prior to all of the present dramas. That was the Achilles heal for them as in other Legacy airlines, That made them more vulnerable to market decline. They 're now asking for staff to take 2 months unpaid leave- stay tuned

This year will be all JAL for me, their PEY even have lounge access and with fixed shell design is a must given there are more and more inconsiderate people tends to recline their seats all the time.

I am a WP, but I have found that it is still hard to get bulk head in Y in QF

CX MMB still shows my reward booking via QF so hoping I am not affected, as yet. I am still the only seat taken in J, it's a bit of a worry.

this is hard for CX, their cramped 3-4-3 777 Y seats is not that popular, once Y pax tried it once they will avoid it at all cost next time.

and now business travel insurance does not cover HKG at all since the airport blockade, even transit, lost of long haul J pax is extra hard.

Husband cancelled his Syd to LHR in sept and is now flying with Qantas
Changed a reward booking for Nov from Cathay to Qantas
We still have two legs with Cathay in Nov wondering whether we just swop them over now 🙄

If there is availability that suits, I say do it!

The reduction in CX flights has been updated here:

I received an email from CX this morning advising my HKG-BNE flight in mid March (connecting off ET from ADD) was cancelled and I was rebooked the next day. Five hours later I got another email advising my replacement flight was cancelled and I now had a two night stopover in HKG.

Just looking at EF and it is now showing a 60% cut with the following direct flights HKG-BNE for the week commencing 16 March

M nil
T nil
W CX157
T nil
F CX155
Sa nil
Su CX157, CX155

I think one of the Su flights might get chopped also. A 50%-60% (so far) cut is in line with reports elsewhere.

Ticketed with ET so I should have other rerouting options.

cheers skip

No changes for us as yet for SIN-HKG-JFK for December. Hopefully that is well and truly far enough away for things to return to somewhat normal.
