Cathay to cut worldwide capacity by 30% [Now 96%]

Well that would be a sudden U turn. Next I'll be reading about them starting up an Australian pilot base*

Cheers skip

*For those literally minded this is a tongue in cheek proposition

I am not surprised by it as china and hk govt is still adopting 0 case system
They don't have a choice.

Chinese vaccines don't work very well again Delta and they know it, so they need continue with 0 case.

Hong Kong South Shenzhen is now fully integrated into China, they are no longer an international city, motherland comes first, so they also have to maintain 0 case, they cannot allow Delta to enter motherland.

Where is CX supposed to fly people to if they can't carry anyone? Unless CX keeps HKG as a base in name, but moves their physical operations out of HKG...

it is thanks to 777 woman (NOT CX 777) and HK NSL to destroy HK as is... Same to chinazi and xitler... I know this because I am born in HK, but proud to be australian

Well until 2006 I used to do most of the pilot stress tests on the Sunshine Coast. There were quite a few regularly attending CX pilots living on the Sunshine Coast. They could easily have formed a base at MCY. ;) :)

Apologies for going off-topic - even FedEx is moving out

I wouldn't say it is off topic. I wonder if this just the start of a broader trend.
Yes it is on topic... and it is just the beginning! cause look at HK now... this is not just politics, but also aviation... in a way what CX is doing is to stop hkers from leaving under BNO visa, and stay loyal to 777 woman, Chinazi and Xitler! (not many real hkers who support democracy will do such thing!)

Is it risky to count on an award flight to UK on CX next May?
That's the question isn't it. We are on paid J fares, and decided not to do the usual SYD-HKG-HEL-LHR despite the fare difference we had to pay to QF in order to avoid potential HKG shenanigans. And on top of that CX viability is just an added risk layer. Tried to get SYD-SIN-HEL-LHR both ways but AY were not offering it at the discount price and it finished up similar cost to QF.

I would avoid it if I can. However, if there are no other award options, and you are definitely transiting only on one single ticket, then leave it. HKG is going to segregate into International and Mainland Zone soon for operational purposes.

Do NOT travel via HKG! Never mind about cancelled flights - but boarder issues like will Chinazi hold Australians hostages for the stance of the virus, HKG, Taiwan 🇹🇼 - look at the 2 Michaels from Canada as prime example!

Not here to talk politics but sadly this is fact…

I have a redemption booked for May 2022; in the system since June 2021. And that was a Covid re-booking from 2020. I don't share everyones' pessimism but happy to be on the receiving end of the inevitable "I told you so", if I am wrong!

I would actually hold. I don't think CX would go broke as such, but I would gamble on CX losing heaps of passengers hence low fare and good award availability later on.

If Swire group sell their ownership then is the time to really worry
