Travelling CX, on a 747 there are 12 seats in the F cabin. On the A340-600 there are only 8.

Anyone had experience with both. Which one is better?

I have only experienced Cathay's 744 in F. But I would always take the 744 option over the A340 for a few reasons:
  • Never underestimate the feeling of turning left 8)
  • There is no "through thraffic" in the 744 F cabin, while A340 will have some through traffic from the F galley to the rear cabins
  • Window seats on the 744, especially rows 1 and 2, have a slightly forward facing view due to the nose curvature
  • There are only 4 window/single seats on the A340, while there are 8 on the 744
  • The overall space of the 744 Zone A cabin will make for a feeling of openness more than the A340
I would expect service to be very much the same (excellent) on both aircraft.

Sorry, only had the same experience as NM. But give me the 744 any day, like NM says....and the service - whooshka!! 8). Beats QF's and BA's hands down because of their (Asian) attitude to F pax. Not subservience, butt they are there to cater to your whims and go out of their way to give you a beautiful flight.

I've done CX F in 744 once and a 343 once. Assuming the layout on the 346 will be similar to the 343, I'd take the 744 any time.

As NM mentioned, the 744 layout has no through traffic, as the Airbus has a gallery in front of the cabin. The 744 cabin is so much more spacious too, especially if you're in row 1 or 2. If you're by yourself, go for these rows.

There won't be any difference regarding service.

The feeling of turning left is something any frequent flyer must experience at least once. :)

What a lovely predicament :!: Another vote for the 747. An exception to this could be if the carrier had a really old/ tattered 747 F product (e.g. TG?), though this won't be the case with CX. Enjoy...
