Normally I would have loved to join you guys for this momentous occasion and would have come directly from the G after the Melbourne v Collingwood game. Unfortunately I will be somewhere over the Pacific on my way to PDX via SFO. Have a good one.

It will just be me as Mrscove has a commitment with family that night.

Any particular wine theme for those not doing Tally?

Old and good? We all know ric_mel will pop by the bargain bin on his way in, but some of us would like to make an effort.

Re: Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

cove's bringing a 2003 Quintet and myself a 2005 Meshach - plus boomy's 2 x Tally.

Looks like it's going to be a quality night. I'll get to the Amber Room around 19:15 for some pre-dinner G&Ts.

I have made a dash to the cellar and located a few "wildcard" wines of the claret persuasion. I'll bring two or three as I expect at least one may be a dud.

Vintage cleanskins again?
I thought tonight we're doing quality over quantity :p

Fantastic night. Great to drink some absolutely amazing wines with some good AFFers and good friends.

Always nice to share tips which aren't posted publicly on the forum at meet ups, and meet like minded people. Great night!!

Sort of related, has anyone ordered from the latest Mount Mary release?

Not me, but I am tempted to jump on.

This aged one was drinking very well with the age onboard. Very smooth and easy to put away. Thanks to Cove for "bringing".

Good to catch up at the usual place and nice to finally meet Cove. Small group, big wines, awesome night!

Finally I caught up with ric_melb and boomy as well as penegal and CE. Well definitely a VIP crew and CE produced a bag full of reds he had in a cooler bag. Combined with others we did not run short of brain food.
CE is confident Essendon will not forfeit the game against the Fremantle Dockers today at Etihad.
Our group of five managed to leave by midnight so lots of secret AFF discussions.
Thanks for arranging the night CE.

Many thanks to Cove and CE for initiating this gathering. There were indeed some excellent red wines of older vintages. Much good conversation, that only ended at midnight, when we decided it was about time we let the restaurant close. We all had the wagyu porterhouse steak which was excellent and "huge".

I believe the final list was (in drinking order):

Grant Burge Meshach Shiraz 2005
Mount Mary Quintet 2003 (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot)
Balnaves The Tally Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2001
Peter Talijancich Reserve Shiraz 2006
Rockford Rod & Spur Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2006
The Islander Estate 'Bark Hut Road' Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz Viognier 2005
The Olive Tree House Port

Some great examples of premium full bodied Australian reds with healthy age on them.
