I am flying this weekend and I want to take a Australia Post mailing tube which measures 1 meter long and 100mm in diameter on board as carry on. Does anyone know if something like this is allowed or does it have to go down below

Should be fine to take on board, it's not that big. I believe i've taken similar on board before, so you should be fine.

The tube alone should be fine, but clearly you're not playing in the spirit of carry on baggage limits. What I would suggest, is in addition to the tube, two roll-a-boards, just in case. Its a pity you're on a weekend flight, a weekday AM or PM peak on a 737 would have been a much better scenario.

You should be ok. We recently took a painting as carry on that was a bit large. We had it well wrapped and asked the cabin crew if it was ok to bring on and we understood if they had to put it in the hold. Both flight crews were understanding and found a place to store for the flight. As always, be polite and understand they could say no.

Will be ok. I took a promotions banner 900mm long, carry-on around the world without a problem.

Sorry, I don't quite understand what you are getting at:
my wife and I, ie 2 pax
1 roll-on and one mail tube.
Is this excessive ??

No. Will be ok. As long a s the roll-on goes under, unless it's the small carry-on size, then both should be ok.

Eric, please accept my apologies, my post was very much tongue-in-cheek, and making fun of the size and quantity of bags people try to carry on-board, particularly in the business peak periods..

In comparison, your tube and single roll-on is not an issue at all. As other have advised, just be polite to the crew if they need to find space for it.

Thanks, no offense taken, I was thinking that may have been the circumstance and yes, you sometimes do just sit at the front of the plane and just shake your head as you watch people come on board. I don't think it is as bad here as it is overseas thou
