Just got off the phone with the office of the person who signed off the letter. Admitted that the consultants had it wrong, and they have been spoken to. All consultants have been spoken to about this issue and it has been clarified that there is no change in the LDW part of the insurance as offered to AMEX Platinum card holders. Therefore, you don't have to pay for the trip on your AMEX. Activation of the cover is when you take a trip more than 250 KM from your place of residence, pay for the car hire on your card and take legal control of the car.

In essence, the phone call confirmed and reiterated the contents of the email response that was sent back to me.

So does this mean if I reside in Sydney but went to canberra for a holiday I would not be covered? How do they get their km calculations? From gcmapper it is approx 235kms from SYD-CBR....

No kidding, so I hung up

I called again spoke to someone decent, she said try whereis.com

Anyways if it's domestic travel it is 150kms not 250kms. For international it is 250kms. So will be covered in CBR if I am from SYD And no excess and can claim up to $70000 apparently.
