Need some advice . Flying Toronto to Lax for QF connection to Sydney . One ticket flight with AC to Lax . I arrive terminal 6. Do I still have to go through immigration then collect bags and recheck for TBIT . Or can I avoid TSA and transfer terminals direct to TBIT as bagged checked all the way through ? The LAX concierge has told me the following ;

“you will have to go through TSA no matter what as you are arriving from an international flight, so after you exit Terminal 6, you will have go through TSA again in Ton Bradley Terminal and double check that your bags are tagged all the way to SYD from Canada so you can drop them off at the transfer area after you clear immigration”

But air Canada states I clear immigration in Toronto with US passport control for seamless connection in LAX ?

Thanks in advance .

Air Canada is correct - you clear US customs and immigration in YYZ and arrive in LAX as a domestic passenger. You will still need to clear normal airport security when you change terminals. I suspect your bags will not be checked though (ie AC-QF - different alliance and ticket) so you will need to collect your luggage and re-check with QF.

If it’s one ticket, I would expect luggage to be checked through to SYD.

As above, you’ll clear US immigration in Toronto so you should arrive (exit the plane) into the T6 departures (and domestic arrivals) level.

There’s an airside connection from T6 all the way to TBIT. So not necessary to go through security if your luggage is checked through to SYD.

Per the above, you will 'pre clear' US immigration at Toronto airport. Be aware there MAY be a designated window where your flight can pre-clear, although when I used to do this regularly in Calgary, as long as the place wasn't over-run, they didn't mind you doing it earlier than your flight window. May not occur at all at YYZ.

I used to do AC into LAX and then QF on QF ticket, no probs at all bags being tagged through. Certainly ask for it if they don't do it automatically.

For airside connection mentioned by SYD, see under 'walk' and there is a map here

Hi , if this helps anyone flying from Canada with LAX connection to AUS read on . Check in at AC counter , they tag your bags all the way through ( you get an email from air Canada within minutes to tell you bags will be at your final Aus destination ) then you go through security and US pre clearance . Once landed at LAX you arrive domestic terminal and take connections under tunnel to TBIT and do not go through customs or TSA again .
