Hi can anyone offer suggestions. I am looking at making a booking for a 18 year old to fly from Edmonton Canada leaving about 25 June and returning end July begin August to Townsville Qld. Dates flexible,
it appears very little choice of airlines other than Air Canada or Cathay Pacific to Cairns which would be great but the price is much more expensive. As this is her first time flying international the most direct flights easiest to manage (mum won't worry so much).
any help would be appreciated on a tight budget.
Thanks
Gwen

Via LAX will be the cheapest option. LAX-SYD for under $1000 return can be found easily enough at times. Then SYD-TSV for around $300 return on VA1519/1520. Jetstar also flies direct SYD-TSV. Not sure on Edmonton to LAX though. Worth looking at the Matrix - ITA Software by Google site.

Ensure to check out other major airports as well. e.g. YVR-SYD or BNE, LAX-BNE. It's usually around the $1000 mark.

Even try YYC to YVR or LAX. It might be cheaper to fly within Canada, than say to USA, to connect to the long haul leg.

I'd also look at SEA-LAX-BNE/SYD (factoring in of course getting to SEA in the first place!).

I'd also look at flights to HNL and connecting to Aus from there.

There are a number of options, and it will be balancing cost vs inconvenience!
