Now to ponder whether I change to USD, the HKD 1500 that's been sitting in my travell wallet for 15 months.

Lindsay Wilson I just read in the Xmas thread that you may not be travelling for a while after this jaunt. If so, then why not change the HKD, of course in the US (to avert double exchange).

Vegas and Reno (to name but 2 gambling cities) have special rules. Every ATM in those cities will impose an extra USD 2.00 on cash advances. Elsewhere in the US, things are a bit more relaxed. I have an ANZ gold Visa, and never get charged any fee when I use Bank of America ATM's. It's a cheap way to get cash o/s.

Can I confirm if the ANZ Qantas Visa Gold Card will charge no fees (and I mean the AU$5 or $6 I currently expect per transaction and not the conversion fees) if I remove money from a Bank of America ATM?

This card used to do this until the ANZ changes back in Nov 2003.

No, unfortunately, I believe the ANZ Qantas cards are a different animal to the standard ANZ gold card.

I think that the ANZ Qantas cards do attract a significant ATM fee irrespective of where or what provider.

One of the downsides to these cards.

Yada Yada, next time you're in the US, use the Bank of America ATMs with your Westpac bank card. There's no charge for cash withdrawals for Westpac customers. (There's a whole range of fee-free withdrawals for Westpac, such as Barclays in the UK... it's one of the reasons I keep open an account with them.)

Is there such a great difference to the standard product? Is ANZ or Qantas having a lend of us?
