Has anyone succeeded in doing this?
From the buying part to the airport part, to succeeding on getting onto the plane part.
I do realise that there is a cheaper option, is to phone up VA phone bookings and ask for a "comfort seat request" on VA dom, or do a booking for economy X.
Ie,
Mr X Ramsbottom seat 4A
Mr J Ramsbottom seat 4B

And do OLCI for both, and then getting to gate and scanning both OLCI BP for 2 for 1?
Stupid question, weird, off the wall, crazy, inane, yes to all these.
Reason is this, I plan to travel next, is ADL - PER and all the later flights on the weekends, or Easter long weekend, are VARA without a J service, with only row 1 as economy X.

An even if somehow they're both scanned then the actual pax count prior to take off will be incorrect. There will then need to be a manual check of who's on board thus delaying the flight.

The person who scanned two BPs would get in trouble and the pax involved would probably be invited to assist law enforcement personnel with their enquiries.

Mmm, a lot of trouble will be caused by the looks of it, if I did try the it.
Will make phone bookings for the VA dom comfort seat request on that PER trip.
Will want to try out and see the VA PER the Lounge on the way back.
Will try the QF PER dom J lounge later on too.
Ta all.

Just thinking about doing it all online, without having to phone them up.
I know I could book a J seat (if on a 737 and not a VARA F150), or economy X row 1 on the F100/overwing online , without having to do a phone up.
Thought that maybe buying 2 seats for 1 online, could be done, easily being the operative word.
But as the others have mentioned, its just too much scope for trouble, so, yes, will be phoning up VA dom sales for my next trip ADL - PER - ADL.

Most USA airlines allow this, you must book both tickets on the same reservation. The second ticket must have the same last name as the other passenger, but the first name must be 'Extraseat'. This can be done online and the system processes it properly. Both BP are scanned. No FF benefits are allowed for the second seat (I believe).

I have no idea if VA allow this. I also have no idea how typing a post, reading & responding to the replies, is easier than just calling VA. But hey what do I know. :)

VA indeed allow this, plus (like QF) one can earn points and SC for the exrea seat.

As to the OP they have a "different" way of posting.

Once in a blue moon, I have been given a empty seat next to me on VA dom.
This was before the economy X came along.
On economy X, I have also been given an empty seat next to me.
As mentioned on here, "questions to the brains trust".
If I phone up VA telephone sales, I might have to do a wait time, which this week/weekend I am busy covering this long weekend public holiday replacement cleaning shifts.
On ADL - MEL, I could probably bear it in economy X, but I have read reviews that the F100 is a different type of plane, it will be my first on that, and probably will do an April PER trip.
The VA the PER Lounge (domestic) will be my last of them on the Aust mainland I will have been into, have been into all the others.

Called 136789 and got what I wanted.
$638 if I had booked what I had planned, as in title.
But by phoning up, it was costed $615.84, $22.16 less.
But 16mins on hold, and being passed from the normal VA CSO to a Senior.
Got row 19 A&B.
The Senior CSO was able to put me in.
Asked if the seat was for comfort or for musical instruments.
Make sure you ask for Extra Seat on VA.
Bit pricey for a 4.25hrs flight, but still, better to have space to stretch.
Will use my VFF PS pass to check out the VA dom PER lounge, 9am flight so probably airport shuttle from PER city.
Just like to say though, pity that VA dom decided that the VARA was a good idea, no J cabin, and if not a status member, have to pay $65 to enter PER lounge.
I didn't want to complicate it further, so didn't ask about "Happy Hour" or the bonus SC earn, didn't register prior either.
30 VFF SC earn not too bad, 15x2 PER - ADL.
Might do an EconomyX on the way to PER.
Thanks again everyone.
