Business Class Seat Selection

Hi we have Business Class Flights booked on points for 3 people Melbourne- Cairns via Brisbane and return flights start of January all Business class flights however haven’t been able to select seats since booking and am still unable to it just says individual seat selection is not available for these flights for all of the sectors? Any ideas advice would be much appreciated.
 
If you're Bronze, it's possible that all seats in row 3 have already been allocated.

If a 737 then this is likely correct. Any unselected seats should open up for selection 24-80 hours out, so keep checking periodically and at online check-in. Otherwise you will receive what is left.
 
I think if it's 3 people on the same booking, there would need to be at least 3/4 seats free in row 3 for the system to assign you. It's entirely possible there's at least 2 other people already started in row 3, hence no seats until T-80.
 
The thing is when I booked these we were the only ones in Business and that was months ago and haven’t been able to select from day 1.

If you have an ExpertFlyer account (a freebie one is fine), you can look at the seatmap to see what seats are actually taken and which are blocked for higher status PAX. It probably only takes 2x other non-status PAX in the last row of Biz to stuff up your ability to select 3x seats.

All available seats should open up at T-80.

Just checked expert flyer and shows all 4 row 3 seats free on the 1st leg.
 
Did you book directly with Qantas or via a travel agent or other online travel site?

Free seat selection is only offered if you book directly with Qantas or have higher status.
 
I think this is happening because, as a Bronze member, you only have access to row 3 before T-80, due to having 3 on the booking, of 4 available seats, there's nowhere more to "move" to (I'm not sure how to explain what i mean - sorry) within that one row you have preallocation rights to, so the system gives this generic message.

Noting when T-80 hits and the status blocks are removed, you should have much more freedom to select (depending on others in J on the flight).

I'd just call QF (ugh sorry) and see if they'll at least manually assign you in those row 3 seats to suit your party's preferences for Aisle/window.
