I have tried to find out via Cathay's website but couldn't, I was just wondering if Cathay's Business class on its 330-300 planes have skybeds?

Certainly not on their regional product. On some longer routes like SYD-HKG they have a sloping bed seat.

Most i have been on not, but there is also 3 class A330's in the CX fleet that may have. The 777's i think do.
I am on a CX A330 tomorrow so will check it out but i think its a regional config and hence no beds.

The 3 class planes do have the "skybed" style seat and some aircraft now have the 2 class config with the new flatbed. Depends where you are flying from, I think if it's BNE or PER the answer is no.

CX have two configurations on their A330 aircraft. The ones shown in the schedule as aircraft type 330 are the two-class regional config with non flat cradle type business class seats. The ones shown as 333 are the 3-class long-haul config that have flat (sloping) business class beds.

Sometimes they operate 333 aircraft on 2-class regional routes and some lucky business class passengers score a F seat. I have had that from KUL to HKG.

But they now have some with the new flat seat. How are these shown in the schedule?

I believe the only aircraft they have with the new seating product are 747-400s and 777-300ER shown as 74A and 77A in the schedule. I am not aware of any A330 aircraft being fitted with the new generation premium cabins.

Edited to add that there is now a 33B config that has the new business class product. I learn something new every day. It seems there may be 2 such configured aircraft presently and they are scheduled for CX101 SYD flight some days.

Sorry to bump an old thread but just trying to get some suggestions on seating for my Big Personal Trip next July. Just checked EF and found we have a 33B SYD-HKG and 77A HKG-JFK.

Looking at the seat maps the 33B is 1-1-1 and the 77A is 1-2-1. Do we have anyone with experience of either config and suggestions for which seats are good for couples? Mrssimongr is not the most confident flyer so I am tad concerned if we are going to be separated - mind you might save my hand getting crushed like normal...

Just came back to Sydney on CX101 a few days ago, and noted the new lie-flat business seats, which have a herringbone arrangement. The seats look narrower than the previous business seats. Has anyone flown in them?

Assuming this is the new BC, I don't think that any of the seats are really good for couples. I liked the new seats, but it wasn't easy to talk to the person next to you. We were in the 1-1 configuration upstairs on a 747. To be seated next to someone, you have to pick something like 29A & 30A or whatever, rather than 29 A & B for example. You kind of have to stand up over your seat to talk to the person next to you, which isn't that easy.

I really liked them, but not as much as BA new club world.

The good:
- true lie flat seats, with room to stretch out
- really big screen, with lots of movie/tv choice
- staff that went out of their way to provide me with a beef meal, when there was only fish or vegetarian left in J (I ended up with a meals from F - nice). but I have pretty much always found CX staff to be good.

The bad
- not being able to see out the window for take off and landing, especially when you are circling JFK for 30 mins. Is difficult to know what is happening.
- they are a bit narrow, and a little claustraphobic (I am sure I spelt that wrong, sorry)
- not great when travelling with someone - is wuite difficult to talk to the person next to you.

The weird
- you are facing the side, so when taking off, you are pushed against the divider, rather than into the back of the seat

Would be a really good bed to sleep on, so I would recommend it for longer flights.

I think for me as a business traveller they will be great - I am long and (not as) thin (as I used to be) and a large screen with no aisle pax to clear it will be good. However my first experience of these is likely to be with mrssimongr travelling on her first int'l J flight and being nervous :( I am sort of hoping for an equipment swap to old J...

The herringbone config might be great for business traveller (which really is where business class is targeted), but is not very optimal for couples or families with young children.
