I need to fly AKL-MEL on 8 Jan 2010, and am looking for advice from the experts on AFF on the best/cheapest way to fly in business class, given the high season.
I have already booked a flight QF26 in fully flexible economy for $500, but I would like to fly in business if possible.
I have seen two options - an EK business fare for about $520 on EK407, or I can request an upgrade for 16K QF points.
This will be the first time I will fly business class, so I am looking for a good experience, despite the relatively short flight. Looking particularly for a good meal (especially as I am vegetarian) and decent IFE.
Questions:
1. What is the chance I will get upgraded for 16K points on QF26?
2. Am I better off getting a refund on my QF economy fare and buying the EK business fare?
3. Are there any other alternatives to fly business AKL-MEL on 8/1 for no more than $600?
(FYI I am a Qantas Club member and am QF Silver, but no other status)
Thanks so much for your help! Happy to provide any more info if needed.
