CAn I get Cathay Pacific to ticket this?

I want to do MEL-HKG-YVR (all Cathay), stop YVR 24.5 hours. Then YVR to DFW AA, stop, then DFW-MEL (via LAX AA/QF).
Absolutely. More fuel fines though. But perhaps a bit more convenient than AA as you can organise everything via the local Cathay office so no need to call a few different numbers.

Plus as the codeshare isn;t allowed to be oversold, it'd virtually diminish your op up chances to literally zero. Not that it's terribly easy to get an op up anyway.
I don't believe the selling code has any affect on op-upgrades. By the time the flight is under airport control, it is my understanding that all passengers are pooled together for the purpose of final manifest management. I have been op-upped on CX when using an AA flight number.

I was just passing on advice I got from someone I know who used to work for BA. But obviously it isn't the case for all airlines. And of course in a moment of panic, a stressed out gate team/back office could do anything to clear the flight for a punctual departure.

I've long learnt to stop stressing about op ups - the emotional investment is too great. This way I enjoy them more when on the rare occassion that they do happen, and don't get disappointed otherwise.:p
