so NZ has been spamming my inbox every day about their new year sale..... the prices aren't dreadful ex-akl the probably the best I've seen in a number of months

For J class on NZ
Travel Dates 22/1/24 - 12/12/24 (no blackout dates - the blackout dates only in economy)
Fare Basis: JSVNAM1

LAX - $6986 NZD return
SFO - $7186 NZD return
IAH- $7986 NZD return
ORD - $8586 NZD return
JFK - $10486 NZD return

Sales end 19th Jan

For J Class on QF
QF basically matched all the NZ prices but they didn't send an e-mail or do a campaign. I realized 3 days in when I was scouring expertflyer for fares to JFK for a conference in May 2024. Not a bad SC earner ~ 520 SC return to LAX/SFO

LAX - $6760 NZD + taxes
SFO - $6960 NZD + taxes
JFK - $10260 NZD + taxes

The JFK fare allows routing on QF 3/4, but it seems that there is basically zero I class availability across 2024 (usual Qantas nonsense ... reminds me of the old QF25/26 issues).

QF also allow 1 stopover each direction in Area 3 (BNE/SYD/MEL) or LAX/SFO/DFW depending on routing. Can allow you to nest a fare for use at a later time if you want. Generous changes rules too for an I fare. $100 to change / $200 to cancel

Sales end 19th Jan

On an even better note.... I'm pulling up some $7995 NZD Return on UA AKL-NYC going via SFO (PLX0XSTP)

Also if you have AMEX Plat and the international airline program, AKL - JFK on NZ (UA Codeshare) with IAP discount comes to $8743.63

For those who want QF... you might be better off waiting until tomorrow. QF is loading an even cheaper fare starting tomorrow.

I was just coming on to post this haha!

6499 LAX/SFO
6999 DFW
7499 NYC

What I can't figure out though is why the transcontinental book into economy instead of I. I can't find the fare rules yet online

Edit: Never mind .... no I class availbility when I'm looking
