Well, it's official. Started a new, awesome job a few weeks ago but my travel is virtually nil. With about 400 SC in the bank with QF and the same with Virgin, my platinum days are over at the end of my membership year in September.

I've donated the vast majority of my points to my brother and his new wife for a pair of JASA MEL-SYD-BKK for their honeymoon and the rest (just over 100k) was keeping for myself. I wanted to do something I'd never done before.

As my new job is in education I am restricted to taking leave during school holidays, which proved another challenge.

Anyway, the outcome:

Rang Platinum desk and asked for F availability between MEL and an asian port (either SIN or HKG) sometime in July. Given the Olympics and other issues, I doubted it. Two minutes later, a confirmed P seat on QF9 10July12!

I've also used up my remaining HHonors, A|Club and Hyatt points at various properties in Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong as the rest of my trip unfolds.

So far, I've got a 12 night trip, travelling F to SIN then JQ from there (paid - $250) for the cost of the JQ airfare plus $240 in taxes for the F leg. Not bad!

That P seat if available and booked as a FASA would earn your WPness 180 SC's and 11,247 QFF points.

That 180 SC's on a pro-rata bases could be worth another 2880 QFF points in Loyalty Bonus.

Anyway, enough of that - enjoy your new lifestyle. :D

A new definition of an oxymoron, a trip in First class then a JQ flight!

I suppose not dissimilar to an F-lounge run on JQ35 \ 36 ... :D

bugayev, I too know the pain of switching to a job where travel options are much more limited... :(

Thanks guys.. was extremely tempted to book as a FASA but ended up deciding that I'd just stick with the classic!
