Brisbane has recently put up signs saying that you should use the long stay carpark if you're going to be there more than four hours.

Last week I took a day trip to Sydney to see a client and left the car for about 6 hours. I would far rather leave the car in the short stay carpark as it tends to be easier to find a spot and it's much closer to the terminal.

Can anyone advise?

It all depends on what you want to pay, the issue with the short stay carpark will become apparent now that we are in storm season, its the same price for 24 hours at each one, wonder what happens after 24 hours, you could argue its $40 since the rates say 4 hours+!

Park Short
Parking Rates
15 min $2
30 min $6
1 hour $13
2 hours $16
3 hours $22
4 hours $25
4 hours+ $40

I believe the parking rates have been set such that for less than 4 hours its cheaper to use Short Stay parking, and for more than 4 hours, its cheaper to use the long Stay parking. So its more about cost than convenience as far as the signage is concerned.

For what its worth, its usually easy to find a spot at the northern end of the long term, although they do tend to put a barrier up to stop an immediate right turn on Mondays. Valet is an extra $13 compared to short term when its 4+ hours.

I changed to using car park outside the airport. My preference is Andrews.
They drop me off at the airport right near the entrance and when I come home, They pick me up from the same point and return me to their depot which is at the end of Airport drive.
Never had to wait more than 5 minutes as they have several vans coming and going all day.

As an aside, Andrews (who I also use) offer a 10% discount to RACQ members.

So that brings a one-day undercover stay, with drop-off/pickup at the terminal door, to $20

Having said that, I haven't used 'em since the overpass went in - so I'm not sure what impact that will make on travel. I'll let you know in a week :)

I was discussing off-airport parking with a friend recently, and they commented "But what happens if the company goes broke while you're away and the place is locked up when you come back".

Had to think about that one for a while. I assume you could call the police and get the place opened up to retrieve your car (technically it would be unlawful wouldn't it???)

I think that is the least likely problem you would encounter. What if someone steals your car from short or long term

I imagine the administrator would have to put in place a procedure to allow folk to retrieve their vehicles (and pay 'em some money!)
