PASSENGERS were forced off a Qantas plane bound for Sydney this morning after a brake problem.

Heraldsun.com.au believes the 208 passengers waited for 50 minutes on the tarmac at Melbourne Airport as engineers assessed the plane.
The embattled airline's latest problem comes just two days after a stray rock-climbing rope jammed in the baggage conveyor.

+1 from me.
Shoddy journalism when it comes to reporting incidents like the A380 engine incident and other things that have happened to Qantas recently is bad enough, but reporting what is essentialy a minor issue that probably happens almost everyday to an airline somewhere in the world is really beyond the pale,it's time that no news realised that they have become a laughing stock in the eyes of many Australians and they should get back to what a newspaper should be doing, and that is reporting the news in a professional, informative, unbiased manner and not seeking to damage a major Australian business by continually beating up minor incidents into major stories.

In fairness it’s not just News Corp. The story also appeared, albeit briefly, on ABC News Online. I think a lot of the mainstream media has the “QF radar” up right now.

The thing is that QF should be using the nonews shoddy journalism to it's advantage.

Releasing media releases (or even paid advertisments) stating things like

- You see all these minor issues published, because we don't have jets crashing on a daily basis

- All these articles prove is that we really are the safest, all these issues and not one life lost.

- Unlike some other overseas airlines, we don't take off unless we know we can land safely.

- Number of minor incidents amoungst all airlines in the world this week, 63. See these things really are routine. (Ps I did just pick a number out of the air, but it would be easy to work it out)

Counting back 7 days on the AV Herald I count 39 Incidents.

Did my delays on Friday make the news? I havent had time to check since I got back...

I had three hour and two hour delays on both my recent Jetstar flights and that didn't make the news. I guess they pick on Jetstar separately to Qantas though.

Agree its not only News. Heard this latest 'incident' on ABC radio.
And on ABC Tv last night was a story on the 747 delayed, they must have picked every whinger in the queue!

.... and in reality we are probably making it worse by talking about it as well. :( :(

On my last flight, Qantas had run out of ginger beer. News have promised me that they will do a full expose on the latest "Qantas Catering Fiasco" which left some passengers (i.e me) in a dangerous state of near fatal dehydration.

Who cares about the ginger beer :?:

So long as they don't run out of the real stuff :!: That would probably get a mention in Parliament.

I think all this attention is bordering on ridiculous. It seems that every single delay is being reported. Delays are all part of traveling, hardly news worthy unless its excessive.

As for avherald, there may be 40 odd incidents reported over the last week, but I would expect the number to be much more higher than that. Certain countries (Canada) seem to have to report more than other countries.

The lack of Ginger beer here is the biggest issue;)

Nonews is lucky they are not based in the US because reporting every 50 minute delay would mean they would have no time to report on anything else.

Have the union been spouting about the lack of maintainance (done in Australia)

Errr! Why are you on Jetrats. We thought you new better !

I was on this flight. Didn't seem a real big deal to me.

Essentially we were all seated and buckled up, the captain came on the loud speaker and said they couldnt release the brake to commence taxying and engineers were looking into it. About 15 or so minutes later, they thought they had narrowed it down to an electrical problem, but were waiting for an electrician to come out.

After the hour was up, the flight was cancelled. I have never seen a 200+ deep queue at the service desk to get rebooked. Thankfully I was sitting in the front rows of economy, and managed to get on QF414 at 8 am, although my luggage never made it with me and was delivered directly to my hotel after consultation with Qantas baggage services in Sydney.

I don't recall anyone being offered a choice of going onto the tarmac to go find their own bag though, so if that did happen it would of been after I had already been rebooked.

Would rather they find a brake problem on the ground than in the air.

Was a bit disappointed with one of the male flight attendants though. Someone was standing up talking to a pax in the row I was in, and the male flight attendant walked past and snidely remarked "we care about your safety remember". All the pax in the row just looked at each other with a "wtf" look. I guess the flight attendants must be getting sick of the issues themselves, and being on the front line they'd be copping the brunt ala branch staff at Commbank after the latest rate rises.

I was delayed for an hour and a half on QF 412 because QF ops were all over the place as a result of this yesterday.

May not have been a safety issue, but their ground ops seem to be seriously struggling.

Oh come on people. Stuff happens, deal with it.

Busses run late sometimes, especially in Sydney when it is raining (like today). Trains run late, planes run late. All for a whole plethora of reasons.

We are the traveling public who pay for a service. Sometimes, beyond the regular control of the people employed to make that service run smoothly, the system breaks. Most of the time the reason for that is totally beyond the persons control.

How all of us deal with that circumstance makes the difference between an understanding passenger and a sound bite on Today Tonight.
