I'm in Boston next May for four nights and reading other threads, the Back Bay Area seems to be recommended. I'm looking for a hotel that isn't too expensive, but most seem to be $1500+. The Boston Park Plaza Hotel is coming in at a reasonable price. Any thoughts or other suggestions? Looking to spend less than $1000.

I've stayed at the Doubletree by Hilton, 821 Washington St. Close enough to walk into town and wasn't too expensive.

I've stayed there last September too. Like Hvr said it was close enough and very reasonably priced.

In June 2010 we stayed at the Sheraton. We had "won" this on Priceline & really enjoyed our stay & thought we got great value. There is a lot of web info re Priceline & at the time we were pretty sure of which hotel we were going to score when we were bidding

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express at 280 Friend St which is just across from TD Garden where the Celtics play is there's basketball on.

There was a CVS pharmac_ nearby plus a great little sports bar called Fours one block away where we had dinner - all that bar food like Buffalo wings etc however more than adequate as dinner. Heaps of sports memorabilia on the walls for die hard sports fans.

That was an award stay through IHG which cost 15,000 points plus USD70.00 per night.

i think they have some great bars!! Always many things on at once

Also, any thoughts on bidding on Priceline?

I'd contemplated this option last time running through BOS but decided to bite the bullet and grab a night at the Hilton (thanks to the DJ WP option of HHD) for a reasonable price.

Read a few reports on the whole Priceline bidding option which in theory sounds great but IMHO I'd just hate to miss out or get a hotel that wasn't up to what I was expecting. Plus if you look hard enough, you can get almost as good a deal on the hotel you want as opposed to the Priceline gig of not telling you the hotel until you win the bid.
As always though, YMMV.
