I may be completly off base here, just something I have noticed.

If I book make a booking through QF AUS I get 4xx_XX, if I book through QF SIN I get 3xx_XX, if I book through a non Amadeus agent I get Yxx_XX.

Is it just me, or is there something to this?

A recent international booking through the QF website starts with Yxx_XX and a recent domestic booking also through the QF is 4xx_XX.

Maybe it is just a timing issue? Or totally random numbers?

My bookings are all international. However I was thinking it was something to do with the location of the booking. I have notice this over a 12 month period.

I had a recent website award that was 5xx_xx, and a recent purchase on the site was 4xx_xx

I currently have 11 bookings with Qantas Amadeus PNR's.

4 start with 2, 1 with Y, 3 with Z, 2 with 3 and 1 with X. Of these, 7 are Qantas.com.au bookings (2,2,Y,Z,Z,X,3), 3 are Qantas.co.nz (2,2,Z) and one AA (Z). One is an award flight - that starts with a 3 ...

So no consistency there ...

That shoots it all to hell then:lol:

Honestly, I'm not sure now. Those that I mentioned are for April to October this year.

My last international was 3xx_XX booked via qantas travel that was in 2007. 2004, int booking, QF travel = 2xx_XX

I have a few other bookings details at work but they were all domestic and quite random. I'm pretty sure that a couple of other award bookings that I did were Yxx_XX

However, I did go through a stage of getting words, like a past internet award booking had IWEB in it.

BTW I have a collect of booking details going back to 2004 if anyone seriously wants to look into this.

To be honest, I really think they are just reference numbers that don't really carry any meaning themselves. As far as I can tell, basically random, although the first character seems to be drawn from a small set of possibilities

OMG:shock:

I have 4 and think. Wow, look at that

Over the last few years I have averaged 2 sitting in MMB. So 4 is hefty. At 11 I bet the scroll wheel comes in to play:rolleyes:

Wait till you call Qantas with 11 bookings to get something sorted :)

They have to try and work out which one/how much to scroll through your bookings!

I am sure even at WP 11 would be unusual:!:

I have certainly found no pattern on this one, whether it's PNRs created on qantas.com, through AA, via TAs using either Sabre or Galileo.

Same goes with Amadeus PNRs on other airlines (BD, TG, LH).

I recently made a booking with both LH and BA in the same PNR - same Amadeus reference for both segments.

Not just domestic with these numbers, I have:

QF Aus Website Award International 3xx_XX
AA (Phone booking) Award Domestic 3xx_XX
QF Aus Website Award International 5xx_XX

Going back through archived booking emails, they were almost entirely Y or Z prefixes until late 2002 when 2 became popular along with the occasional X.

It was like this up until a couple of years ago when the Amadeus references for Qantas flights seemed to regularly start with 2, X, Y or Z.

My current bookings reveal:-

QF SIN international paid = 3xx_xx

QF AUS international award = 5xx_xx

I booked something else which is a Zxx_xx

My current booking (paid Y via Sabre) has an Armadeus reference beginning with 5.
