Hi all,

I have a feeling i have read similar posts on this, but couldn't find them.

Anyway, last night the sale for Qantas American sale ended. Unfortunately i missed it and would still like to book flights, but really don't want to pay $1400ish from MEL-LAX on May 7 returning on May 12.

I noticed that if I book a flight from LAX-MEL return, it comes in at roughly $900 as the sale is still going in America.

Is it possible to book this flight on say May 12 returning on a random date, but then call the Qantas call center, get charged the US$200 fee and have the MEL-LAX leg changed to the 7th?

Cheers,
Greg

Unfortunately no. You can change the date of the return flight but the date cannot be before the date of the outbound flight.

Do you need to be in the USA at another time? Perhaps you can use points for one-way MEL-LAX and then continue to purchase LAX-MEL returns from the Qantas US website. A few of us on AFF do these ex-USA and ex-SIN as the airfares are much cheaper and usually take seasonality out of the equation.

Firstly, I believe the ex USA sale finishes on April 29. (Qantas)

Secondly, I don't think you'll be able to move a return date to be before the outbound date.

Serfty is correct. You will be charged the effective price as if you were originating from MEL (lots more $$).

It most definitely can't be done, in fact it'll end up costing you alot more than if you'd booked the MEL-LAX fare to begin with as you'll have to cancel it, utilise what you had as a credit and be forced to purchase whatever the cheapest fare on the market at the time is which may well be alot more if the sales arent on.

For thinking outside the box though i'm giving you an 8.5/10 :mrgreen:

It get me wondering how many people have tried that in the past not realising it can't be done only to find themselves wearing a nice big adcol.
