We're travelling as a group to a conference - our host at the conference is a company that has provided us their Marriott corporate rate code to book our hotel rooms.

We are paying for our own accommodation, reserved with our own company's credit card.

I called the hotel - and they tell me over the phone (Marriott foreign call centre, the hotel diverts all reservation queries to this department) ... that we will need our corporate identification with us (ie the host company).

Can someone please give me some guidance if we are going to have issues?

I'm thinking of just cancelling the reservations and re-booking without any corporate rate .. the only thing that makes me hesitate is that there is a $100+ difference per night (3 nights x 4 rooms).

Once a year we do a conference in the US and we get multiple rooms at the conference rate. Just turn up with your conference badge and you will be ok.

I agree with cove but to clarify they gave you their 'company' rate and not the 'conference' rate plan.

I think that may be the difference and hence the concern.

Presumably though this 'host' company will have many rooms booked under their rate plan so I would not expect a problem. It is different than you using say a Ford Motors Company rate plan and having no affilication with the company.
