I want to fly BNE to HND on SIA and can book either SIA or VA

$1536 VA - outbound Saver, inbound Flexi
$1558 SIA - outbound sweet deals, inbound Flexi
$1773 SIA - both Flexi

Some considerations (in order of preference) :

- if possible would like to use KF miles to upgrade the overnight leg at least outbound (BNE to SIN)
- would like best earn of miles and SC's into velocity
- would be nice to have lounge access though not a deal breaker

im a VA Platinum, no status with SIA.

With such small.price difference between fares I'd be booking flexis for sure!

However there is two types of flexi...One that you can upgrade with KF miles and one you can't.

Yeah it's the former type on the pricier fare. Is there a way to check miles upgrade availability for KF?

if I did book SIA, would I earn the same Velocity points and credits (assuming I didn't upgrade with points)?

I don't think you get your platinum bonus points if you book direct with SIA.

Correct - you only get the "standard" VFF points if booked directly with SIA on an SQ code. The plus side of booking direct with SIA is that you can reserve an exit row seat at the time of booking...... If anyone has been able to do this while booking on a VA code, I'd be interested to know (e.g. can you get the SIA booking reference from VA and then call the SIA helpdesk??).

I prefer to book direct with SQ as then you can select seats and check in online. It's usually cheaper too. You forego the points bonus, but it's usually the SC's that matter more to me.

SQ coded flights earn VA SCs? Must book eligible booking class? I really need to start researching these options.

And from memory exit rows on SQ are USD$50 each leg or has that changed?

Yes, they do. The main difference in booking SQ code vs. VA code is that on the SQ code you don't accrue eligible sectors or status bonus points. SQ fare classes that earn SCs:

Discount Economy - N, Q, T, V, K
Full Fare Economy - S, Y, B, E, M, H, W, L
Business/First - R, F, P, A, Z, C, D, J, U

I booked ADL-BOM return with SIA in February. Gave my Velocity FF number which was recorded on all boarding passes. Only ever received points for two of the four segments. I tried claiming missing points on the Virgin site 4 or 5 times but receieved no response and no points. So good luck!

Went with SQ in the end in hope of an upgrade with KF miles (which I'll switch my Velocity miles for). Phoned SQ booking line to check availability first and was told there was and would be 130,000 KF miles for the round trip upgrade.

But when I booked, looked and upgrades are available for each leg, but they're gonna cost the earth :

BNE to SIN 140,250 KF miles!
SIN to HND 85,000 KF miles
HND to SIN 42,500 KF miles
SIN to BNE 140,250 KF miles

Total KF miles 408,000 (or 550,800 Velocity miles)

I will probably upgrade the HND to SIN leg on way home as its an overnight but can't justify the miles for the others

Kind of wish I had booked through Virgin now as was $100 or so cheaper (still both Flexi), and I would have got my 100% Plat bonus miles. On the plus side - apparently I can get two $40 vouchers at Changi which I can spend on duty free :)
