I was born in Brooklands, Surry in the UK in 1962. While home was the UK, I traveled the world regularly from a very early age. Some people have said that I was born to fly. In one of my many long-haul trips I crossed the Atlantic in 5 hours and 1 minute, which was a commercial flight speed record that took 41 years to be beaten.
I was born into a large family with several siblings recruited into the Royal Air Force and taking up flying roles in troop transport and aerial refueling, but never directly flying ground or air attack missions.
I spent 20 years flying for BOAC and British Airways, operating flights all over the world, including to and from Australia and many flights to and within Africa. I had the absolute privilege of flying the Royal Family on Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s bicentennial tour of America, and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher insisted I fly her to many international meetings.
During my 50 year flying career, I flew for many airlines, including BOAC/BA, Gulf Air, Air Ceylon, East African Airways, Ghana Airways, Middle East Airlines, Air Malawi, Nigeria Airways, and Siera Leon Airways.
I also flew military and government operations for the Royal Air Force, Royal Aircraft Establishment, Oman Royal Flight, Qatar Amiri Flight and the Government of the UAE.
I finally retired from flying operations in September 2013.
I am mostly known for being loud and good performance in high and hot conditions. I am well recognized for my 4 tail-mounted Rolls Royce Conway Engines.
