BNE-SIN-LHR in PE. Any way to make QF and BA play nicely together?

There is no BA in BNE to check you in so you check in with QF & you will have a QF51 boarding pass with the notation "sold as BAxx_x".

A friend is flying out today so will ask them to ask the lounge people & report back.

OK, cool. Sounds promising then.
Cheers.

Okay, according to staff at the BNE Intl lounge there is a grace period for one more week (which I'm assuming is 30 Sep) for pax booked on a BA flight to access the lounge.

So after 01 Oct even if you hold a boarding pass for QF51, if the flight was sold as BAxx_x which is commented on the boarding pass you would not get entry to the lounge.

Oz, thanks so much for running this to ground. Much appreciated.

Just one more chunk off the value of a paid Q Club membership. If I were trying to devise a way to drive customers away from QF this would be it. In case someone from QF loyalty is reading, let me spell it out: QF would never have got my entire business for this trip because for BNE-LHR PE return around the dates I want it's $11k+ for a couple. BA is $6605 and 2 free nights in London. However; we start and finish the lourney on QF aircraft. What an opportunity to maintain general QF brand loyalty by continuing to provide the benefits I assumed I had. Its stuff like lounge acces that just makes travel easy. Sitting in. a QF lounge at the start and end of a journey makes you feel good about QF. Instead QF gets a very pi$$£€ customer vowing to fly "not Qantas" domestically whenever I can and telling people why. I've paid for both Q Club and V Lounge so no skin off my nose - I'll go with the company that treats me best.

Rant over, am I being unreasonable?

IRIC I now find myself in the same boat as you I have booked SYD-SIN-HEL-BUD on 9 Oct I have just renewed my QPNB for the next 2 years on the assumption that when travelling on a Qantas flight I would have lounge access to SYD lounge When I checked my bookings on Qantas site this morning I find I have 2 booking numbers 4I***Q that has AY5004 and the other one 4I***9 has QF5 so which one will Qantas let me use The first one has no access the second one has naturally I will try to use the second As this is a mixed flight Business Class from SIN with Finair can I use Qantas lounge or Skyview

John,
As I wrote earlier, it's become a real mine hunt to find all the possible reasons QF won't allow access to a QF lounge for their (loyal?) paid club members, so I'm not sure of your situation. I would have thought that we would be the prime candidates to keep in the QF fold. Continuing to make us feel loved when flying on a QF aircraft and before would be a great way of keeping me. Turning off that benefit is a sure way of alienating me. I'd suggest a polite but firm complaint to QF by as many members as possible might be a good idea.
Good luck.

Ian

Just a thought - why not just fly in whY BNE/SIN/BNE & make the booking on QF via the www.expedia.com.br website. You can use the Google Chrome browser to translate into English. Read the thread below for further details:

You could then get a price in PE OR J ex SIN to LHR & return & just buy two separate tickets. QF in BNE would be able to through check your bags onto the BA flight even if it's two separate tickets as both carriers are members of the OW Alliance.

Ex LHR BA are known to be difficult ie refused to through check to other OW airlines when they are going against the OW policy so you could maybe have a stopover in SIN on the return leg or maybe both ways.

What dates are you looking at travelling on for all sectors?

You will have two Amadeus pnrs, one for the marketing carrier ie AY or the airline you booked through so your flight would be sold as AYxx_x. The other pnr is the operating airline's pnr ie QF & relates to the airline on whose metal you're flying.

The following link from the QF website allows you to click on each lounge & determine your eligibility however for the SYD J Lounge at Intl for QP members it doesn't mention anything about your QF flight not being able to be booked as a codeshare. I think the only people who can give a definitive answer are the people who work on the reception desk in the lounge.

Qantas Club Member
Next onward flight that day must be a Qantas^, Emirates^ or Jetstar Airlines+ flight number.
One guest allowed and must be travelling with the member on the same flight.

^ Lounge access eligibility is based on the class of travel, Qantas club membership or the Frequent Flyer Membership tier for your next onward flight.
+ Jetstar refers to Jetstar (JQ), Jetstar Asia (3K) and Valuair (VF).
# A oneworld marketed flight refers to a flight with a oneworld flight number, eg QF1 or AA222. A oneworld operated flight refers to the actual aircraft or 'metal' on which you fly, eg Finnair aircraft.
** Valid in Qantas operated lounges branded as the Qantas Club or Qantas Lounge. It is not accepted in associated and partner lounges and the lounges in Los Angeles.

Just did a search on ITA/Matrix website for J fares SIN/LHR/SIN & the cheapest that comes up is TG via BKK both ways for AUD3765.00 return pp which includes taxes. SIN/CDG/SIN would be AUD3490.00 in comparison.

Oz, I guess here are a few options I could look at. My gripe is that the original BA fare and free nights deal works fine and until QF decided to take away the benefits I have up until a week before I travel, I would have had lounge access as well. Like I said, it's a nonsensical approach by QF which will only alienate Qclub customers travelling on their aircraft.

NM, all of what you say is true enough. I guess you only miss lounges when you can't have them. My irritation (apart from no longer being Plat and not having to worry about it) is that even having paid for a QC membership, leaving from home, flying on a QF aircraft I lose the benefit of that membership just because it happens to have a OW codeshare.
The other issue is that even though it is a OW route, the two carriers now act as if it weren't. I fully understand why the QF/ Emirates partnership and the changes through SIN have produced this outcome - just not happy about it and wondering if there was an avenue someone else could think of to achieve what I wanted.
Cheers.

how many SC are you away from SG?
