BNE new runway - updates

I occasionally do noise assessments for developments in the vicinity of airports so I have an interest in the development of airports. In 2010 I stood in a huge and spanking new terminal in western China (wanna say Urumqi?) that had so few flights per day it wasn't funny. I recall reading an article somewhere at the time it was one of 45 recently built in China. I also recall the 'discussion' surrounding the new runway at BNE. I'll just leave this here to provide some context for the "achievement" of that new runway at, of what is in the grand scheme of things, a pretty small and existing airport.

I heard all departures were from the new runway (and arrivals are coming in on the existing runway). Of course, wind direction and other factors may mean normal operations are changed....

They've been doing simultaneous arrivals and consecutive departures on each runway. The new runway is designed to handle north and west departures with the old one doing south and east. Though since Sunday there have been some north and west flights departing on the old runway (DOH, TPE and POM).

Yes, here’s a 747 arrival from SYD on the old, captured for posterity, and PX from POM arriving on the new, with said 747 at QF domestic. The PX doesn’t have a particularly long taxi, and it was followed in by a QF DH4 from Miles.

Why couldn't an aircraft use the runway due to the taxiway? SQ, EK and PX have used it recently to takeoff from 19R, that's a long taxi. If a flight needs to use the new runway, it'll use it.

The BNE ATIS for the past couple of days has been "INFO A. DEPENDENT PARALLEL APPROACHES & INDEP PARALLEL DEPS IN PROGRESS.", so staggered departures and parrallel arrivals. Also an aircraft landed on the runway after midnight last night, it can be used at any time.

This was SQ’s taxi this morning. Only two gates are further away than what they used, so it’s one of the longest taxis possible. I would think a pilot would need to have a very good reason for not using the new runway.

There are many variables that will determine whether or not an aircraft is able to use the new runway. If the aircraft is unable (as opposed to it being inconvenient) the pilot will be authorised to use the old runway.

Taxi is no longer than 34R in SYD (which to be fair is quite long!) but can’t seems a strong word, undesired more likely. The new runway was included in the AIRAC cycle on 21 May (it was closed by NOTAM until last weekend), so I find it very hard to believe any major airline is flying with out of date data.

You’re also incorrect about the 10pm rule (unless you were referring to departures only). The plan is to use opposite direction runways at night when wind allows, so arrivals and departures are over the bay. So the new runway will be in use around the clock.

Shouldn't be too bad - the map says that planes should be over 4km (ascending towards 6km) above ground level by the time it gets to Bribie. I live on the southside (Parkinson) under the existing flight path and based on that map planes should be ~1.4km above ground where I am. I can barely hear the planes even when I am outside.
