Just wonder what people thought about the closing of Diamond Club for non-UK members? I managed to redeem most of my Diamond Club miles when the writing was on the wall but I have several thousand left over.

The notice to AU / NZ members is:

"We are currently reviewing options for our customers who live in the South West Pacific. We will freeze your Diamond Club account and destinations miles balance until further notice but assure our members in the South West Pacific that your loyalty is important to us and we will do everything we can to complete this review quickly."

Is this really just saying they don't know what they are going to do and we are likely to lose any remaining balance when they complete that review (like non-SWP members)? Or, they might be hoping to strike a deal with another OneWorld Frequent Flyer program that does operate in the South West Pacific and transfer miles to that (ok, that is wishful thinking)

So, do you think there is any chance of an upside to leaving miles in a Diamond Club account past the 27th October freeze or should I try and get an BA Executive Club membership and transfer them in to Avios before it's too late?

I suspect when the joint service agreement between QF and BA is dissolved that BA exec club will open up to AUstralia and NZ residents and that's why the accounts will be frozen. Alternatively, find an overseas address and join BA!

Unless you want status with BA, you don't even need an overseas address. Just use your Australian home address but change the country to Austria.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

9,000 Avios miles (if you convert your BMI miles to Avios) will get you some nice return flights ex-LON with co-payment of only 27 GBP.

They will also get some of the shorter flights within Australia on QF.

Unfortunately, exactly my situation. Only have an o/s work address and no personal mail allowed, so the gold status can't be transferred to BAEC (unless they begin to accept Australian addresses before they close DC)

It's surprising how efficient the postal service can be, when they see and address that says "100 High Street , New Meadows, VIC 3999 Austria" at some point someone will probably cross out Austria and write in Australia (probably happens all the time). In your case if you are QF Plat already, you probably don't need the physical BA gold card, unless you are shortly going to drop back from WP?

About to get LTG, so will shift crediting to another program (and keeping a high status level through a status match while I get there through flying is attractive to me). Ironically enough, my work address is Austria....

Thanks for the advice. I signed up for Avios today and transferred all but 100 miles across from BMI. I left 100 behind just for the opportunity to participate in whatever they might decide about Diamond Club in the future.

Just checked the new diamondclub.org today. I've still got 1200 miles leftover from 2009...

Finally news on left over miles.

Dear mhen,

Due to the sale of bmi to IAG, there have been changes to the Diamond Club that have affected your membership.

As we do not have an Executive Club programme in Australia or New Zealand, we previously wrote to you to advise that your destinations miles would be frozen until further notice. We would like to thank you for your patience and we are now pleased to advise that the options available to you are as follows:

Existing Executive Club Members
If you are already an Executive Club Member registered at an address outside of Australia and New Zealand, or would like to register as a new member with a valid address in a country where we have an Executive Club programme, you can transfer your destinations miles to Avios using the Combine My Avios tool by logging into your Executive Club account on ba.com

Temporary Enrolment in the Executive Club
If you do not have an address outside of Australia or New Zealand, we will be happy to enrol you as a temporary member so that you can transfer your destinations miles to Avios, which you can then spend on flights, upgrades, hotels and car hire*. Your temporary membership will be valid until 31 December 2013 and all destinations miles must be transferred to Avios and used before 01 January 2014. After this time any unused miles and Avios will be expired and your temporary membership will be closed. To enrol in the Executive Club, please contact us using the Contact Us section at diamondclub.org with your full email and date of birth details and we will create your temporary membership for you.

Transfer your destinations miles to another Executive Club member
If you would prefer to transfer your destinations miles to another Executive Club member please let us know using the Contact Us section at diamondclub.org, providing your name, Diamond Club account number and the name and Executive Club number of the person you would like to transfer these to. When the destinations miles are transferred to Avios in the account of the Executive Club member you nominate the Avios will belong to them and only the member can spend them under the Terms and Conditions of the Executive Club*.

If you do choose to enrol on a temporary basis or transfer your destinations miles to another member, please allow 7 days for us to process this for you. Any destinations miles not transferred to Avios using one of the options detailed above by 31 December 2013, will expire and the Diamond Club and temporary Executive Club accounts will be closed.

For more information please visit: diamondclub.org

We would like to take this opportunity again to thank you for your patience and for your support as a Diamond Club member.

Yours sincerely

The Diamond Club Team

Anyone got suggestions on what to do with 3000 points?

Just transfer to my account :)

You can open a BAEC account, and transfer to it and see if you can earn enough points to redeem QF shorthaul flights such as SYD-MEL.

You could try build up your point balance via hotel stays, car rentals and Tesco Clubcard - although I think for CC you need a UK address. That being said, you only have ~5 months to use them..... so I'll also stick my hand up for being the recipient on the points if you don't find any use for them

Like Flashback and Edison... I also have a BA account.

But scummy behaviour from IAG. Does show how little they respect Australian members.

A few comments/tips. Don't forget Iberia Plus. If you want to keep the points beyond the deadline you can sign up for Iberia Plus account and move Avios there, although I am not sure if their burn rates are as good as BA. Also if wanting to quickly earn some Avios to use, for certain partners, Iberia Plus can be better (eg Hilton, or transferring LeAccor Club pts) so earn in Iberia then move Avios into BA is a possibility too. Lastly, the only correspondence I've received from BA is membership card, so if not wanting to move up the status levels, then starting with Australian address and " moving" to a hotel somewhere in a country where Exec Club memberships is permitted is an option if you aren't concerned where the mail goes (ie already have the membership card).

Can you sign up for an IB Plus membership with an AU address? If so, just pull all the BMI miles over to IB (via Avios if need be). They're freely moveable between BA / Avios.com / IB Plus.

You certainly can, I signed up because of the great Accor to IB avios rate (now stopped). One night in Korea plus the 2K I got from joining BMI gives me enough for a flight SYD - HOB, can't complain!

I had already moved all my BMI miles to a BA account but had four family members with 500 or 1,000 miles left from sign-up bonuses. They(me) used the option to transfer to another EC member last week and now I have an additional 2,500 BA miles. :) All went very smoothly.
