SIN has had to close a runway for an hour on Monday night due to the presence of what were described as “unauthorised recreational drones“ in the vicinity. 15 departures were delayed - including our flight, resulting in a missed connection to GAT. QR have been proactive and it seems we have the least worst option - rebooked on the next flight with a few hours in the lounge at Doha. Could have been much worse - I was dreading an involuntary downgrade to Y. I suspect the staff are still dealing with 200+ unhappy campers. I must admit that I am surprised this situation doesn't happen more frequently, given the popularity of drones and the number of, how does one put it, morons out there...

Interesting that my DJI drone will refuse to take off if it thinks it's in a no fly zone, and it will refuse to fly into one if you take off outside.

I have a Phantom (DJI, not a McDonnell Douglas :) ), and although I have never tried it near a western airport, I beleive that the no-go zones get enforced and updated each time you do a software update. Usually am against big brother stuff, but with drones I see this as an excellent thing.

On a short bus tour out of Akureyri,we stopped for a photo op at a pretty little inlet.
One of the Ships photographers whipped out his mavic and was filming from 500m in no time. flat
I would love to cart mine around the world but it is still bulky, delicate, AND you never really know if it will let you fly where you want to fly

You should be OK on QR as DOH is further west in the Persian Gulf. (The map above is for DXB ) The heat is around Strait of Hormuz which is a fair way from DOH.

I have a friend who is up in the ‘Stans at the moment. She’s having a wonderful time.
