Bizarre Experience at the QF J Lounge LAX

Depends on the rules. "Guest must be travelling on the same flight' = guest can't stay after member has left. 'Guest must be on any flight' = guest can stay on their own.

As for guesting in more than the allowed number of guests... that would fall foul of membership rules, with whatever penalties come with that contravention. I think QF for example can revoke membership?

Didn't try to take it back to the Flounge with you? :)

I was a bit bored in the LAX F lounge a few weeks ago, so wandered out and ended up in front of the J lounge. Thought about going in, shivered, and went back to the Flounge. ;)

No need to shiver, they have an open fire in there :p

In the example I gave, they were different occurrences. I don't think there is confusion between what's possible and what the airline's official position is (lets say QF). In this case, I don't think there is an 'official position' on legitimately admitted guests staying after their host has left (for instance to catch a later flight), but dig it out and post if you like. :)

The discussion came up wrt to international flights and also guest one person into the F lounge, then going to guest someone into the J lounge.

So there is the traveling together rule. There is also the rule about guesting beyond your allowance.

Finally the general principle is that your in the lounge because of the rights of the person guesting you. Ie the guest is a guest of that person. If the person is no longer in the lounge, the guest no longer has a host.

Of course, I would also argue about the meaning of traveling together. ;) two people going to a conference overseas on different flights?

True drinking Jack Daniels is seen as a bit "bogan" these days but its actually a pretty good quality spirit. Not quite degrading yourself but slamming down a double in the morning does seem a bit desperate. A Single Malt scotch would be a more sophisticated choice and might do more for the self esteem.

Couple of comments:

- I only drink JD because it is available where as my favorite current tipple - quality rum - is never there.
- having a double "in the morning" is not desperate - I was only a few days out of Sth America and my body reckoned it was about 9pm :)
- earlier this year was in LHR in the first lounge at breakfast time - again with a body clock out of sinc with locals. I did indeed try a JW Blue for brekky :)

I'm not sure there's an issue with definition... if it says the guest must be traveling 'on the same flight' that's exactly what it means... both pax on same flight number.

The QF rule is this:

  • Internationally - invite one guest each time you visit. Both you and your guest need to be travelling together further that day on the same flight.

oneworld rules are more liberal:

  • Emerald and Sapphire members may invite one guest to join them in the lounge. The guest must also be travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld carrier.

In Emirates lounge in DXB a couple of months ago, went to the J lounge and the angel asked me why we weren't going to the F lounge, but my daughter was flying through so it was a good chance to catch up with her. When she departed on her flight went to the F lounge with no questions asked:)

i have done 4 lounges in HK, with CX and QF

Mrs Lime and self did 4 F/J lounges in HKG then poured ourselves onto the plane :)

Now only an SG not sure what she has in mind with our next trip, 7 cities mmm.

You can visit as many lounges as you are entitled to visit as often as you like before your flight. Visit the First lounge. Wonder over and visit the Business lounge. Come back to First lounge.

Random question about multi-lounging:
Each lounge allows you to being in one guest. Could you guest one travelling companion into the F louyou from and another into the J lounge?
That's an interesting one and I will say yes you can. I don't think systems are that intelligent to log the details of you and your guest and then stop you from guesting in another lounge. You are entitled to one guest each time you visit the lounge. It doesn't say anything about limiting you to one lounge only or that your guest has to be the same person.

If the information is logged does anyone check later? I could be wrong but I don't think so.

If you only had a single guest at any time, in any lounge, that shouldn't be a problem. But if you guested one person in to Lounge A, leave them there while you meet another friend and guest them into Lounge B at the same time, that would be against the rules.

Who would know? They do not track the movements of guests in the lounge.

The day they give you a bracelet to wear in the lounge that tracks your movements, food consumption, alchohol consumption etc is the day that worry. Until that day if you only have 1 guest in any given lounge then it's not an issue. It does not matter if it's Arthur in the Business lounge and Martha in the First lounge.

Only if the rules said that guests must leave the lounge when you do. Where does it say that?

I often leave my parents in the ADL QP when I come back to Melbourne and they have been known to spend the whole afternoon there :)

Sure you can leave your guest... but that's different from trying to take two guests into two different lounges at the same time. If you deliberately play the system to take two guests, that's potentially an abuse of the rules, and airlines state the penalties that can apply if they catch you. It is potentially a theft of service - obtaining a goods and services which you are not entitled to.

<snip> It does not matter if it's Arthur in the Business lounge and Martha in the First lounge.

Or even Arthur and Arthur is you're so inclined. ;)

When ever I enter an international lounge they scan my BP so they do know I've arrived. I have heard the staff remind pax that when they leave the lounge so must their guest, so it does happen. YMMV.

The rules have clear limits on the number of guests that are allowed. In international lounges that is generally 1 not 2.

But where are these rules actually written down?

To be clear, I'm not arguing that this practice would be right or something I would even do. But you can't claim it's "against the rules" if the rules don't actually say that.

About the LAX lounge - does anyone have any idea if the lounge angels/dragons are likely to allow in someone transiting on QF11 who only has a QF guest pass? I know the 'rules' say no guest passes, but I also know that lounge angels/dragons often make up their own rules. As the OP shows ;)

It seems unlikely. They could try folding a $20 note around the pass when they hand it over? :)

I also agree its unlikely because there is a specific rule about it.

But i understand that the AA 30 day admirals club members can still get in? Perhaps thats an option you might want to consider. If i recall during the first phase revamp when space was tight QC members were being turned away and AA 30 members were still being let in.
Or memorise everyone on your flights face and stand by the escalators with a big smile on your face hoping to make friends.
