Big development! Qantas seat selection!

Just tried out seat selection for the first time on my classic award flights later this year. Results:
  • BNE-SYD in QF 738 J: choice of 'aisle' or 'window'. (Selected 'aisle')
  • SYD-BKK in BA 744 F: choice of 'aisle' or 'window'. Selected 'window' and after the selection process had finished, found I was auto-allocated 2A.
  • BKK-LHR in QF 744 F: seat map popped up; selected 2A. This was the last window seat left in the cabin - everything else was selected/blocked! Middle section is completely free.....
  • LHR-FRA in BA 319 J: choice of 'aisle' or 'window'. Selected 'window' and was auto-allocated 1A.

:( My BNE-SYD flight was originally a 763: they changed the departure time to 10 minutes later and changed the aircraft to a 738.

A little ambiguous... What is a oneworld equivalent Frequent Flyer? ...

8. Is International Advance Seat Selection available to oneworld customers?
No. International Advance Seat Selection via qantas.com is only available to Eligible
Frequent Flyers; however equivalent oneworld tiers are able to request a seat via existing
channels
At least Oneworld tiers can still request a seat through the phone (I guess).

I think they're trying to say that you have to be a QFF silver/gold/platinum member. Nothing else counts, not even the the top tiers in other oneWorld programs
No!

8. as posted by futaris indicates elite members of other oneworld frequent flyer programs (e.g. AA Gold, BAEC SIlver) can call Qantas to request a seat.

The answer is No!

No.

Which was what I was addressing. Seat requests are available to such members through other channels.

This may be incorrect, there is an indication on FT that AA Exp can select seats online:

Is someone out there listening??

I can now select seats in F on my upcoming longhaul flights and can select window or aisle for the domestic legs. ^

What frequent flyer program have you entered into your booking? AA? QF? BA?

Ah so it is not Class based but FF status based.

I entered my AA EXP against this booking.

I have booked 2 trips on Qantas last night, taking advantage of the $69 one way fares SYD - MEL (one to see Tiger Woods at the Australian Masters in November :D). However, I did not find any where on the screen which would enable me to do the seat selection. Is it too late to do it now? How do I go about? Sorry to ask this question, if it has already been answered in this topic! Thanks.

If I had a QF international sector coming up I would be happy to test for you. But all my international flights are booked on CX and BA, with only domestic bookings on QF at this time. My domestic booking is showing seat allocations have already been made for me (2A and 2B), but of course cannot select/change this on-line.

Just checked my dom bookings for later thismonth. Have a seat selection button but says my flight is not eligible for selection.

Thanks, everyone, for such quick replies.

I understand now that seat selections are not available for domestic flights - but I can checkin online 24 hours before flights and select seats then. Usually we get reasonably good seats - row 5 in B737, or row 23 (I think) in B767 - because hubby is a plat.

Ahh the International seat selection is the best thing since sliced bread. Love it!

744 upper deck exit rows not available for my Aug SYD-HKG DONE4 leg.
17A.

In fact 11JK 12JK 13ABJK 16ABJK (exit rows) are unavailable upper, and about half of lower is taken

Also appears (from the screen showing past flights) that seat selection may be available for BA and IB (not CX or AA)

No, seat selection is not available for BA flights at Qantas site. BA seat allocations can be viewed on the Qantas site, but cannot be changed.

Yes at the moment.... I was actually a fan of the domestic solution and I'm hoping they are just working out some bugs before it rolls out domestically again.

I shot an email off to QF to ask if it was in the works... will see what they say!

Will be interesting to see what happens when the upgrade shuffle occurs < 24 hours before a flight.

Hopefully I can snaffle a better seat than one I've already been allocated!

I think there are stacks of us hanging for the domestic solution to be brought back in, personally probably 70% of my travel is domestic so I can't wait for it to return.

Did someone mention that seat selection for international flights was back online? I have a Oneworld award booked for August/September 2009 and I cannot see how I can view/change seat selection for QF flights on the booking.

Bring up your booking with www.qantas.com/yourbooking .

At the bottom right of the Your Flights frame you should see a rectangular icon:

icon_onlinecheckin.gif
.....Select Seats

I went into the booking earlier and the OLCI button was greyed out, the Cancel button was enabled and the Change button was greyed out. There was no button on the screen to select seats. I think the Qantas website was having issues.

Now I can see the seat map but I have not tried selecting any seats

  • QF107 SYD-LAX I have 58HJ pre-allocated but can see row 36-39 and I can select from 36DEFG
  • QF030 LHR-HKG I have 46HJ pre-allocated but can see row 34-37 and I can select from 35ABEFGJK, 36ABEFGJK
Would it be worth it to swap from WHY exit row to premium economy? Would the new seats pre-allocated be likely to stick? I hope I have not stuffed up existing seats by going into the booking.
