Hi all - without going into the details of my mini-drama (ex-husband stops payments abruptly) I really need to generate some cash quickly rather than go on a sublime holiday

Am thinking of purchasing some iphone or computer gadget with my points - these items tend to resell well on ebay......

any other thoughts would be welcome

next time I post I hope its about my next trip!

Welcome to AFF. The Qantas Store is not the greatest value and about the best option I can think of is buying Gift Cards then selling to Card Limbo.

Some examples Seiko SNAE70P Watch, sells for $599 street with a RRP of $899, Ebay might get $450 before costs or $400 net for an outlay of 58000 points on sale at present. Allow a week to get it then time to sell etc.

A $500 wish gift card is 74500 points, Card limbo will give you $430 for it via direct deposit usually a few days after getting it, so maybe two weeks tops.

So it seems buying the things on sale is not a bad deal for resale if you think you can sell it easily, versus the guaranteed cash value of a gift card.

Agree the balance of ease of access to the $ is gift cards, particularly if the gift cards can be directly used rather than selling-off (with further reduction to face value).

Trying to buy phones cameras etc as markis10 has illustrated come at inflated rrp compared to street value, plus then take a big hit when trying to on-sell.

Do you know of a family member who would appreciate you transferring them the points (for an appropriate fee)?
If not, one idea would be to look for one.

For interest from another thread
I had a friend who went thru a divorce and didn't check his account for almost 3 yrs ( when the 3 yr exp was around) he found that his wife had transferred 100k per year he called Qantas and they said bad luck. I know as I was helping him on the call. Why they couldn't just un transfer the transfer I have no idea. He was prepared to do a stat deck. No dice. Once someone has the pin its fair game.

Booking an international business class ticket for a family member would yield the highest return
