Best way to get to Kos?

We are taking the kids to Kos and then onto the UK in September. I am planning the trip and have been having a play around with the OW planner. Wish list includes:
We would like to do a stopover in Asia ( SIN/BKK/HKG)
Not transit LHR until return trip
Stick to OW carriers if possible (due to 2 x WP)
At this stage the best route I can come up with is SYD-BKK-JO-ATH on QF/RJ. Olympic ATH-KGS
Never flown RJ before.
Any thoughts on a better way to get to ATH/KGS or is it possible to fly to KGS via another EU transit? Where should I be looking online?
The trip will be in J and as always I like to have everything planned in advance and then call the TA.

For OW, maybe you could try a Finnair fare via BKK/HKG. Finnair does fly to Athens, so that might be OK depending upon connections. Beware that the Finnair flight from HEL-ATH is seasonal.

If departing from MEL, the flights on Qatar and Etihad are excellent, well priced and have great timings, but no SE Asia connection. You could try the Etihad flight ex-BNE, as this allows a SIN stopover.

Ultimately, though, for ease of travel (especially with kids), you should probably look at both the SQ and TG options. EK will also more than meet your needs.

Personally, I'd look at separate fares. OW to SIN/BKK/HKG....and then fly whatever else looks good to ATH. At least you will get some lounge access, priority checkin etc on some of the legs.

Note that Malev also flies BKK-BUD (I think 3x weekly) and then BUD-ATH.

Also consider using Aegean (A3) for ATH-KGS flights.

For other alternatives to get direct flights to KGS from European destinations try WhichBudget. I see Ryanair flies to KGS from Frankfurt-Hahn (HHN) and Milan (BGY) although that may be one airline to avoid.

I've been having a look at the Finnair website, someone I think drron (??) flew them to Europe. Having trouble with the HEL-ATH sector. It's not clear from website that it's seasonal.
Switching from OW may be the better option.

Air Berlin is in the process of joining OW. That might be useful by September 2011.

I would take a QF flight to Frankfurt via Singapore and fly Agean to Kos via Athens. At least the longest leg of the flight would allow you access to the OneWorld Lounges.

The only One World options I can think of is to fly FRA-MAD - MAD - ATH with Iberia or FRA-BUD-BUD ATH with Malev.
