Best Use of FlyBuys points!

Conventional AFF wisdom would be that this is not the best way of extracting value from your VFF points at 0.6c per point.

Everyone's circumstances vary of course and if you have no need or opportunity to use them for flights, its better than them going to waste

Exclusively QF & One World, so fuel does suit me best

Obviously depends on local fuel prices but in that situation, I would go to Caltex Woolworths with a 5%-discount WISH giftcard and a WW docket, picking up some QF and Myer points along the way

I don't prioritise QF points so I hover between BP (2 VFF, 2 Amex), Shell (8 Flybuys, 3 Amex) and Caltex (5% WISH, 4c docket, 1 QF, 1 Myer, 3 Amex) depending on who has the better price and extra offer

Was there ever a 5x bonus points offer when booking VA flights via Flybuys? I thought there was but can't find anything now.

Looking to use the Flybuys points to purchase VA flights.
Have you heard of the current "shake'n'shop" game on flybuys mobile app? Anyways - you piss around with the phone trying to catch bonus offers AND one of them that I caught and didn't use was a 5X points offer on ANY booking with flybuys travel. The promo only goes a couple weeks so it might be worth a look for you...

There's been various offers. Certainly a 5x on all domestic VA flights mid last year. But they have various offers on specific cities, etc

Nothing exciting yet with the shake'n'shop game.

I've just chosen 7X points on any hotel booking but need to check if their hotel rates are competitive.

I find Flybuys to be very good. We spend $1200+ per month on groceries plus First Choice and Liquorland.
So that tends to give us 120 SC per year :)
And with bonuses (e.g. only buy at FC or LL when they offer 2000 pts per purchase, and game the 4-week bonuses), the points soon rack up.
We get near 200K per year and we have:
a. transferred to Velocity: e.g. wife used 45K points to upgrade to J on BNE-LAX, daughter flew last minute BNE-MEL return for (almost) free.
b. transferred to Velocity -> KrisFlyer (pre-devaluation)

I figure I'd only be spending the money anyway (plus I have recently been buying the Coles gift cards at 5% off).

As to the OP's rant, I just don't get human behaviour. Sure, I've made some rants on here after a good bottle of wine or a few drams of scotch (I mostly delete the next morning). I just don't get the hatin' in what is such a great community.

How do you get 5% off Coles giftcards? I am only familiar doing this with Woolies cards.

5% off Coles giftcards
I get mine through AGL Rewards - obviously you have to have them as your gas or electricity company (they offer the best rates in QLD).
You also get Flybuys for your power charges.

AGL also has in their Rewards scheme:
  • 5% Cellarmasters
  • 10% off David Jones
  • 5% off JB Hi-Fi
  • 10% off Priceline
  • 5% off Myer
  • 5% off Target
  • 5% off K-Mart
  • 5% off The Good Guys
NIB Rewards has some similar deals. I do like to save a few bucks :)

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Most people would say premium travel but I could never earn enough to book for 3 people.

For me I would say take the cash discount for shopping unless faced like a situation I had this week trying to travel around Christmas and finding award availability on SQ.

It doesn't hurt to keep points in Flybuys.
Thanks to your input JohnK I have managed to amass (hahaha) around 175,000pts I would otherwise not have. When I get to 200k I can transfer to Virgin for 85k pts, better if I wait for a bonus transfer period. I did not do every bonus offer as some were above my pay scale and so I needed to educate Coles down to lower levels better suited to my shop pattern. All good fun.

Not a big acquirer of FlyBuys points but all go to Velocity. Move when good transfer bonus is on.

It was useful to help meet me get Free Gold Status for year with Velocity when Velocity had a challenge to meet and a bit of extra shopping got me there.

Well...the OP must have been around a LONG time.... given that QANTAS moved its HQ from Longreach to Brisbane in June………………… 1930.

No worries. I've just used most of my points to purchase VA flights and I have just earned another 10,000+ bonus points.

I think I still have $200 or $400 that I can use for shopping but keep forgetting to order Flybuys card.

Don't know if this is the best use of my Flybuys points but the recommended reward when I last logged in was to redeem 11,000 points for a toilet brush!
