Howdy guys.. PER-SYD-CHC

13 Oct (hopefully that 05:45am flight PER-SYD)
then.. 19 Oct SYD-CHC
22 Oct CHC-SYD-PER

Tried using the multi city booking tool - no luck.

Doing seperate tickets... PER-SYD $540
SYD-CHC $709 return

Am I imagining things.. or does that seem a bit high?

Edit: Air NZ seems to have ~$450 return - only prob is *A so no lounge access!

Ponder!

Yup those fares look ridiculous for economy. Can do business class for not much more.

NZ has a sale in both economy and business class to PER ex-NZ (obviously through AKL). QF doesn't seem to have matched.

As for lounge access, some people travel those routes and may be able to assist. October is a bit too far ahead for me to know just yet.

Oh and a reminder to book as two one-ways.

Eg currently SYD-CHC A$239, CHC-SYD NZ$219. :D

I knew Kiwi would pull through  are those fares on Air NZ?

It's for a holiday with the g/f, so lounge access isn't a huge priority but obviously if could get it somehow, one would not complain ;)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Sticking with QF, it would probably be cheaper to do it with three bookings

PER-SYD
SYD-CHC
CHC-SYD-PER

although this would stll be 1160 in total at the moment!

Yes NZ currently has a sale.

Don't forget you can also do jetstar and emirates for SYD-CHC-SYD. In all cases likely to be cheaper splitting as 2 one ways.

CHC-AKL-PER (with 2 hour connection in AKL and longhaul service AKL-PER) is NZ$458, probably best value for the return if you don't want to stopover in SYD/MEL/BNE on the way back since full protection being on a single ticket.

Or if you want the points/SCs QF is NZ$573 CHC-SYD-PER with 3 1/2 hour connection in SYD.

Getting to CHC on QF

PER-SYD-CHC A$737
or PER-SYD-AKL-CHC A$767 (so extra 10 SCs and 1000 points for A$30 and about 2 1/2 hours extra).
(both booked as multi-city)

or booked separately
PER-SYD A$270 (but not available on the flight you want whereas multi-city above is)
SYD-CHC A$405
SYD-AKL-CHC A$435

The difference is PER-SYD separately is red-edeal but no red-edeal availability SYD-CHC on 19th

For emirates

SYD-CHC A$313 (or A$684 in business or A$915 in first)
CHC-SYD NZ$184

ATM it's looking like Air NZ is the best option, with approx fares of $450 return SYD-CHC..

Edit: even seems to be a bit cheaper to do CHC-PER with Air NZ (so... PER-SYD on QF, SYD-CHC on Air NZ/EK, CHC-PER Air NZ)

Going on previous years, Qantas will eventually have a sale for those October dates. In my experience this would be some time late June through July. You may like to wait somewhat, it's unlike to get any more expensive.

For pricing examples, there currently are sales that cover your period of travel; SYD/MEL-AKL/WLG return fares are being offerred for ~AUD470.

Another option is points (although, you are better off using revenue fares across the Tasman)

PER-SYD: 36K + $81
SYD-CHC: 36K + $233  (On QF codeshare on JQ  )
CHC-SYD-PER: 50K + NZD297  (On QF codeshare on JQ  )

CHC-PER is unlikely to get cheaper and most likely will increase. Current sale is very good.
SYD-CHC on NZ is about as low as it gets. While there might be another sale $10 or so less, unlikely to be a significant saving and waiting risks losing availability.

For both of these I would book now if happy with the flights. For PER-SYD I defer to others more familiar with that market.

serfty - that is a good example of why points are useless for trans-tasman economy.

Emirates currently have a sale ex NZ for economy from CHC to SYD for ~$NZ188 oneway

"01 May-30 Nov 2007
Departure Blackout Dates:
27 Jun-15 Jul 2007 &
20 Sep-07 Oct 2007"

Not too bad a deal methinks. Available from ZUJI: Your Online Travel Guru and probably some other places (maybe even Emirates themselves!)

Hard to beat that price!

This is where QF WP really comes in handy...

"Thank you sir; you do know that there will be no boarding calls for that flight from this lounge".

"Certainly; and thankyou for your kind warning ... :) ",

Actually, I now realise Kiwi Flyer posted about that sale earlier!

Oh well. Still a good deal.

Ok... all booked.

647.74 AUD for SYD-CHC, CHC-AKL-PER on Air NZ
270.00 AUD for PER-SYD on QF (haven't booked this one yet, will wait to see if a sale pops up. As has been said, couldn't possibly go up, could only get cheaper).

Thanks for the help guys, I'm pretty happy with what I've paid :)

Some good 80 SC runs there, but still not as good $/SC as some of the domestic sales (not counting Monday's one).

I forgot to allow for taxes being higher on the return flight. Not that good SC earning - only a couple under NZ$10/SC ex AKL, ADL via SYD and CNS via SYD.
